Description

STATES OHAUNOEY M. MUROH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN REFLECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 167,187, dated August 31, 1875; application filed May 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHAUNOEY M. MURCH, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Reflectors for Lamps, of which the following is a specification:
The subject of this invention is a reflector pierced to fit over the chimney of an- Argand or other burner, and suspended from the top of said chimney by a hooked rod in such a way as to be capable of vertical and rotary adjustment.
The accompanying drawings are vertical sections, showing the reflector in two positions, the chimney being represented in elevation.
E represents a parabolic reflector fitting over the cylindrical chimney O, and suspended from the top thereof by a rod, P, formed at its upper end with a book, 1), and at its lower end with a screw-thread, 10, receiving a thumb nut, Q, affording vertical adjustment to any necessary extent.
The mode of attachment will also be seen to admit of rotary adjustment or turning the reflector round, so as to present it in any direction.
The chimney can be passed through one opening in the reflector, as in Fig. 1, so as to throw the light downward for use in reading or writing, concentrating it on one side of the lamp in the most advantageous manner or the chimney may be passed through two openings, as in Fig. 2, the light being then thrown in a nearly horizontal path.
I am aware that reflectors have before been suspended from lamp-chimneys, and made capable of both vertical and lateral adjustment. This, therefore, I do not broadly claim; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the parabolic reflector E, capable of being placed on the chimney in either a nearly vertical or nearly horizontal position, the hool; p, threaded wire P, and thumb-nut Q, all as herein shown and described.
OHAUNOEY M. MURGH.
