Description

UNITED STATES.
PATENT Qrrrcn.
JOHN KIHBY, .Timor ADRIAN, MroHrGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,933, datedAugust 19, 1873,' application led July 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN KIRBY, Jr., of Adrian,-in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Chandelier-Lamp, of which the follow'- ing is a specification:
My invention is an improvement in the class of hanging or chandelier lamps provided with a detachable feedingreservoir; and the improvement relates to the construction of the suspending devices of the detachable reservoir, and the means for drawing off the settlings of the permanent reservoir, as hereinafter described. a
Figure l is atop view of my improved chan-- delier or hanging lamp, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the line a: .x of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A represents the permanent reservoir, which is fitted in the ring C supported by the hangers D E, which are attached to the ceiling by the disks F. G represents the burners, which stand erect on the outer ends of hollow arms H, radiating from the ring G in any desired number. I represents oil-tubes conneotin g the burners with the stationary reservoir through the hollow arms. J represents the detachable reservoir. It is in this example arranged directly over the stationary one, being seated on an angle-shaped ring, K, which is supported between the upper ends of the vertical portions D of the hangers by brackets L projecting' from them, and it is secured by lugs M on it, which drop through notches in the horizontal part-of the ring, and then turn away from said notches by turning the reservoir. This reservoir J has a nozzle, N, pro jecting downward from the bottom into reservoir A through a hollow neck, O, in which it fits snugly, and said nozzle has a cock, P, for closing and opening the passage. Q is an opening at the top for llin g the reservoir, and R is the stop for the opening. The ring K is fastened to the brackets L of the hangers D E by screws S, and thus braces the said hangers at a considerable distance above the lower connection of them, so as to bind the frame of the lamp strongly and permanently. T is an opening in the top of reservoir A, with a stopper for introducing a float when it may be desired to ascertain the height of oil in the reservoir and the lamps. U isa passage at the bottom of the permanent reservoir for draw- Y ing out the settlings from time to time'.` It is closed by a cock, V is a screw, which screws into a socket in the under side of the bottom X, and has a large head, which is thereby pressed hard against the under side of' a secondary bottom, W, through which theV as new and desire to secure by Letters .Pat-
ent-
1. The reservoir J provided with lugs M, in
combination with the ring K having notches,
as described, and supported by brackets L formed on the posts D of the hangers, all as 'shown and described.
2. The combination of the secondary bottom W, screw V', and stopper V with the permanent reservoir A, substantially as specified.
