Description

(N o Model.)
L. M. LONG.
` INSBGT TRAP.
No'. 514,946. Patented -.Feb. zo', y1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.-
'LEWIS M. LONG, OF PORTERsvILLE, CALIFORNIA.
lNSECT-TRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,946, dated February 2o, 1894.
Appunti@ nea Merch 2, 189s. sain No. 464,382. (No model.)
insect traps and it has for its object to pro- Vide a device of this class, which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity of construction, as well as inexpensiveness and general efficiency. l
A further point of novelty resides in the peculiarities of construction and the combinations, arrangements, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, -shown in the drawings, and then particularly vpointed out in the appended claim.
A furthenobject of my invention is to provide a simple device by means of which insects are prevented from gaining access to tables or hanging objects.
The invention 4is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letvters of reference marked thereon, foi-1n a part of this specification, and in which- Figure` 1 is a vertical section of the improved device. Fig. 2 represents the manner of using my device.
Reference being had to the above figures A represents a circular receptacle made of metal orother suitable material the upper extremities of the walls of which terminate in the downwardly inclined ange B thus forming the mouth C.
Secured to the bottom D of the receptacle A by means of nut E is the rod F which eX- 'tends vertically upward through the center of the receptacle A and mouth C, the upper extremity being threaded, thus adapting it to be screwed in the leg of a table or other desired position. The lower portion of the rod F terminates in a hook G' by means of which 'articles such as provisions can be isolated from the intrusion of insects, as fully shown in Fig. 2.
By the improved construction herein shown and described I am enabled to manufacture and place on the market a superior article at a very moderate cost, and thus to meet the demands of the trade.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
-In an insect trap, the combination of a ciry cular metallic receptacle having an upper downwardly inclining flange with a central mouth opening and a lower closed bottom,
and a rod secured against the exterior of the bottom vof said receptacle and formed with a lower suspending hook, said rod extending upwardly through the said receptacle and the mouth of the latter without touching the inner edge of the saidiiange or any part of the receptacle except the bottom of the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
