Description

N0.409,887. Patente djAug.27,1889.
BY JMlA Y w g I i A rim/115m.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OATIIARINE S. WVALKER, OF GALVESTON, TEXAS.
LAM P ATTACH iVI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 109,887, dated August 27, 1889.
Application filed September 29, 1888. Serial No. 2 86 ,789. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OATHARINE S. WALKER, of Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Lamp Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide sewing-machine tables with lamp attachments applied in such manner as that the lamp will cast its light upon the presser-foot and needle from the back and will not obstruct the table or interfere with the work, and when not in use may be swung underneath the table out of the way; and to this end myinvention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 shows my invention applied to a sewing-machine table, the latter and the countersunk washer being broken away to show the fastening. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lamp-holder detached from the table. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 5c 00 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged and broken side elevation of the lamp-holder.
A represents an arm or plate of proper length formed with a slot a, through which the bolt B passes for securing the lamp-holder to the table 0. The outer end of arm A is formed with a semicircular section D. Hinged to one edge of this section D is the outer seniicular section E. These two sections form a cup or socket to receive the lamp F, and said sections are madeslightly conical to be adapted to hold lamps of different sizes, and the lower edge of each section is formed with an inwardly-proj ecting lip c c to support the lamp.
H is a fastening device or hasp with two or more openings 1 to engage with a stud e" for locking the two sections D E closed upon the lamp.
In the upper surface of the table 0 is fitted a countersunk washer (1, through which and the table and the slot at a bolt B passes and receives the thumb-nut 13 upon its lower end for fastening the device to the table. By loosening the nut B the device can be ad- 3' usted longitudinally to hold the lamp nearer to or farther away from the table, and when the lamp is removed the device may he turned wholly under the table out of the way.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The lamp attachment herein shown" and described, the same consisting of the plain plate A,having slot at and formed at its outer end with the cone-awed section D,in combination with the section E, hinged to the sect-ion D and provided with a fastening device, the plate A being adapted to be secured in horizontal position to the surface of the table by a bolt and nut, snbstantially as described.
CATHARINE S. WALKER.
