Be it known'that I, MAURICE M. ELY, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Clinton, in the county of Clinton and State of'lowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supports for \Vashtubs, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in supports and more, particularly to a detachable clamp support for washing tubs or the like.

The invention has for an object to provide a support for washing tubs and the like, which may be readily, applied to and detached from the tub and when removed from the tub can be made into a comparatively small package, thereby taking up but a small amount of space.

Another object of the invention is to provide a detachable and collapsible sup port of the aforesaid character which will have a large supporting area to prevent the tub from being knocked over or otherwise tilted over and which will be comparatively inexpensive in the cost of manufacture, thereby rendering the same commercially desirable.

With the above and other objects in view,

the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and as particularly pointed out in the claims.

Reference now being had to the accompanying drawings wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters throughout the several views the letter A, indicates a washing tub of any well known and preferred construction, which is shown within the drawing as supported by one form of my improved support comprising three separable legs B, C and D respectively.

of wood being curved outwardly at its lower portion and tapering to a point at its upper end. The upper inner face 2 of the base portion is flattened and tapered so as to lie flush upon the outer periphery of the tub A. A transverse slot 3 is formed within the inner face of each base portion for the reception of the shorter arm 4 of the angle plates, as shown. 1 The longer arm 5 of the angle plates rests upon the inner face of the base portion and provides means whereby the chime of the tub may rest upon the upper ends thereof. Adjustably mounted on the outer face of the base portion adjacent its upper end is a hooked clamp 6 having a hook 7 formed integral with the upper end thereof for engaging over the upper part of the tub. The hook clamp 6 has formed therein a pair of spaced elongated slots 8 through which extend the bolts 9 and 10 respectively. The bolt 9 is carried by the upper end of the base portion 1 and extends through an opening 11 formed therein and the said opening is provided with a counter-sunk portion whereby the head of the bolt will lie flush with the inner face 2 and carried by the threaded end of the bolt is a washer 12 and a wing nut 13. The bolt 10 extends through an opening formed within the arm 5 of the angle bracket and through a corresponding opening formed within the base portion 1 thereby providing means for holding the angle bracket in place upon the base portion. The threaded portion of the bolt 10 also carries a washer 12 and wing nut 18. From the foregoing it will be seen that the inner face 2 of the base portions rests upon the outer periphery of the tub A and the chime of the tub will rest upon the angle brackets carried by the base portions and the base portions by being curved outwardly at their lower ends provide a greater supporting area which will prevent the tub from being tilted or otherwise knocked over. It will also be seen that the entire weight of the tub is exerted upon the base portion 1 of the leg supports and that the clamp 6 only provides ample means for retaining the leg supports in place upon the tub.

WVhen having reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings, it will be noted that the hook clamps 6 extends in a perpendicular direction to the floor upon which the support rests and thereby the tub will be clamped 11o between the hook plate and the angle portion carried by the base 1, which obviously eliminates the use of any hooking or clamping means for-securing the chime of the tub to the base portion 1.

In Fig. 3 of the drawings I have shown a substitute for the angle brackets, which comprises a lug 14 having a dove-tail projection15 which rests within a dove-tail recess formed within the inner face of the base portion 1.

While the forms of the invention herein shown and described are admirably adapted to fulfil the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the forms of embodiment herein shown and described, for it is susceptible of embodiments in various forms all coming within the scope of the claims which follow.

I claim 1. In apparatus of the class described, an angle plate, a bent leg, a transverse slot therein adapted to receive one flange of said angle plate, said plate having a bolt hole therein, a pair of bolt holes in said leg one of which is adjacent the slot, bolts passing through said holes, a hook plate having a pair of apertures to receive the bolts passed through said bolt holes, and win nuts on said bolts, all so constructed and arranged that when said leg, angle plate and hook plate are bolted together said hook plate will reinforce said leg at the slot, and the angle plate will form a support for a tub.

2. In apparatus of the class described, an angle plate, a leg, a recess therein to receive said angle plate, an adjustable hook plate adapted to fit over the upper rim of a tub and having elongated bolt holes therein and adapted to be bolted to the rear of said leg, the lower end of said hook plate overlying the back of the leg opposite the recess therein, substantially as described, whereby said leg will be bolted between the angle plate and the hook plate.
