To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, FRANKLIN S. OAPEoN, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and 1m proved Attach mentfor Nursery-Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming` part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a view in elevation, showing the application of the attachment to a chair. Fig. 2 is a top view, showing the attachment applied to a chair and holding a tray. Fig. 3 reprcsents a section taken on the line xm, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the securingbolt and thumb-nut. Fig. 5 is a view ofa modiied form ofthe slotted plate.

This inventionahas for its object to provide an attachment for nursery-chairs, whereby the chair, when pushed up to a table, can be secured thereto, so that the child cannot by bracing against the table tip himself and the chair over, and whereby also a tray or other article can be held clamped tothe table or held before a child when in his chair away from the table for the purpose of supporting a dish or his playthings.

The invention consists in the combination of slotted plates adapted to be secured to the arms of the chair, with clamps mounted upon bolts which are capable ot adjustment within the slots of the plates, and with means for securing said bolts in adjusted positions, the whole constructed and arranged substantially as I will now proceed to describe.

In the drawings, A represents a metal plate provided with holes a, a, through which to iusert nails or screws to secure it to the arm of a childs chair, and having a righ t-angular slot, c', and preferably a vertical branch slot, c2, as shown.

B B'is aclamp mounted upon a bolt, C, which has a portion, c, of its head squared off, so as to tit within the slot in the plate and enable itto travel back and forth in said slot without turning. A thulnb-nut, E, works upon the outer screw-threaded end of the bolt O, and is adapted to hear against the clamp and bind the saine rmly against the plate when desired. Each arm ot' the chair is provided with one ot these attachments, and when the chair is pushed up to the table the thumb-nuts E E are loosened andthe bolts are adjusted up or down in the vertical portion ofthe slots ill the plates until the clamps are brought to the proper height to enable theln to be fastened to the edge of the table. The thumb-nuts E E are then tightened, thus making the connection firm and secure.

` When the device is intended to be used to hold a tray such as shown in Fig. 2 in front of the child, away from the table, the bolts O O are brought to the front of the horizontal portion of the slots in the plates, and there secured by the thumb-nuts E E. The length ot' the vertical portion ot' the right-angular slot will ordinarily be sufficient to permit of the. adjustment of the clamps to tables of ordinary height; but if a further Vertical adjustment is necessary the vertical branch slot affords it.

Slotted plates such as shown in Fig. 5 may be used instead of those shown in thc other figures, if preferred.

The clamps may also perform the function of holding the childs dining-tray securely upon the table, and also of holding the lower forward corner ofthe napkin secured around his neck.

I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe slotted plate adapted to be attached to a childs chair with the clamps, the bolt upon which the clamps are mounted, adj ustablein the slot ofthe plate, and the thumb-screw for locking the bolt at the desired adjustment in the slot, substantially as described.
