W T/VE SE5 I/VI ENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIQE.
ARM-REST AND BOTTLE-SUPPORT FOR EMBALIVIEFIS USE.
No. sosnss.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1905.
Application filed May 3, 1905. Renewed December 5, 1905. Serial No. 290,432-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ROBERT SPARKMAN, a resident of Jackson, in the county of Madison and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arm-Rests and Bottle Supports for Embalmers Use; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved armrest and bottle-support for embalmers use, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which can be readily attached to any form of table or cot and support the arm of the corpse in position to receive the embalming fluid and support the bottle containing embalming fluid, and thus dispense with the necessity for an assistant, and, further, to provide an improved arm support and bottle holder which can be folded into small space for transportation from place to place.
I/Vith these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a view of the device detached, and Fig. 3 is a view showing the device folded.
1 represents an operating-table of any construction, showing my improved device secured thereto.
' My improvements comprise in the main two members 3 and 4, connected by an elbow-hinge 5, and the outer end of member 4 is bent, forming a hook 6, to support the tubing or pump. On this member 4 at its outer end is a sheet-metal plate 6 forming a support for the bottle 7, and at the edges of this plate 6, upwardly-projecting spring clamping-tongues 8 are provided to securely clamp the bottle and hold it in proper operative position without danger of being upset. At the end of member 3 a clamp is provided for attachment to a table. This clamp is formed by pivotally'securing one end of an L-shaped lever 9 to the member 3 near its end, yet sufficiently spaced from the end to provide a jaw to rest against the upper edge of the table-bar, while the L-shaped lever projects beneath the same, and a thumb-screw 10 is carried by this lever 9 and is adapted to be forced against the lower face of the table-bar and tightly clamp the bar between the end of member 3 and the thumb-screw. By this construction of parts it will be seen that my improved arm-rest and bottle-holder can be readily attached to any form of table and will do the work of an assistantnamely, support the arm of the corpse and also support the bottle containing the embalming fluid in position for use. When not desired, the device can be folded into small space and be easily carried from place to place. The device is of simple inexpensive construction and is strong and durable in use.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, I
the combination of a hinged support, a clamp at one end thereof, and a bottle-holder at the other end.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a hinged support, a clamp at one end thereof to secure the support to a table, and spring clamping-tongues at the other end of the support to receive and hold a bottle.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of two members, an elbowhinge connecting them, a clamp at the end of one member, and a bottle-support at the end of the other member.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of two members hinged together, an L-shaped lever hinged to one member near its end, a thumb-screw carried by said lever, and a bottle-clamping support at the end of the other member.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM ROBERT SPARKMAN.
I/Vitnesses:
W. R. THEUS, W. D. MoKINsm.
