Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD fr. RYAN, or NEW BEDFORD, MAssAoIIUsErTs'I H EAD- REST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 379,987, dated March 27, 1888.
Application filed December 9, 1887. Serial No. 257,383. (No model.) y
To all whom, it may concern.- n
Beit known that I, EDWARD T. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, inV the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Head-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are designed to be temporarily attached to a piece of furniture in order to serve as a support for the head.
The object of my invention is to provide simple and portable device, more especially for barbers use, which may be .temporarily attached to a piece of furniture as a support for the head, and I attain this object by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Whichy Figure'l is a side View of my invention. Fig'. 2 is a view showing the detail ofa portion of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a front View of the pad or cushion.
In Fig. 1, A represents a metallic bar, provided with thethumb-screw c, working through its lower end, said screw having the cap d loosely mounted on its point. The bar Ais provided near its center With a square or oblong perforation for the reception ofthe squared shank of the angle-bar B. The shank of the angle-bar B is secured or clamped in the bar The top of Y The bolt ois provided with the loose collar is also that part of the bar A against which 4o Y i and is there secured by being clamped between the head r of the bolt o and the loose collar m by means of the thumb-nut f. By'loosening the thumb-nuts f and e the rod g and angle bar B may be removed from their position and the device carried in a very small compass.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A head-rest consisting of the bar A, pro' 6o vided with a laterall opening through its body adapted to receive one arm of the angle-bar B, and'provided with the thumb-screw e, for clamping said arm, one end of said bar A being provided with the thumb-screw c, working laterally through it, and the other. end having a lateral opening for the reception of the bolt o, provided with the thumb-screwf, loose collar m, and a lateral perforation near its head, in which the rod g, provided with I EDWARD T. RYAN. Witnesses:
