SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.756,100, dated March 29, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LGEORGE H. CRUMB, acitizen of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Stoddard and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Mop- I- Iolder, of which the following is a specificatlon.

This invention relates to mop-holders, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and eflicient device of this class adapted for holding the maximum extent of a mopcloth in elfective relation with a floor or other surface while permitting the operator to maintain an upright position.

Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the'advantages of this-invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a mop-holder constructed in accordance with the invention, a mop-cloth being engaged thereby. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the holder, the cloth being omitted.

to the length of the handle, whereby the jaws may be held in a'horizontal position parallel with a floor or other surface while the handle is held in an inclined position. Moreover, the jaws are extended longitudinally of the holder and are provided, respectively, with a fixed serrated or toothed engaging face 8 and a movable serrated engaging face member 9, said face member being pivotally mounted, preferably, upon the movable member of the holder. The disposition of the faces of the jaws longitudinally of the holder and the arrangement of the jaws obliquely to the length of the handle provide for engaging the mopcloth on a longitudinal central line with the maximum area thereof in contact with the floor or other surface and for holding the cloth against rolling or doubling while the holder is manipulated. In other words, it will be seen that the mop-cloth is engaged on an extended .line in the vertical plane of the handle or staff when held in its normal or operative position and during the reciprocation of the device in the direction of its length, as in thrusting and pulling, the mop-cloth is held extended on the floor or other surface and is prevented from rolling or doubling.

Having described the invention, what is claimed is l. A mop-holder, having a handle, relatively movable jaw-carryingmembers, one of which is attached to the handle, the jaw-carrying members being disposed obliquely to the length of the handle, and having respectively fixed and movable mop-cloth-engaging jaws, which are extended longitudinally of the holder.

2. A mop-holder, having a handle, relatively movable jaw-carrying members, one of Y which is attached to the handle, said jaw-carrying members having jaws respectively fixed and movable thereon which are extended longitudinally of the members.
