IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP AND REFLECTOR SUPPORTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,483, dated April 22, 1879; application filed February 13, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE BOHNER, of Chicago, Cook county, State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation. are enlarged details.

The object of this invention is to provide a bracket-lamp or other similar lamp witha reflector, so supported and arranged that the reflector can be adjusted to any desired position, the reflector and its support being also so arranged that a large reflector can be used; and this I accomplish by providing a support for the reflector, pivoted at a point directly under or near to the point where the lamp itself is supported. In the drawings, A represents a bracket adapted to be secured to a socket upon a wall or post by means of a pintle, a, as usual. 13 is the cup which receives and holds the lamp. (The lamp itself is not shown.) 0 is the sup It is pivoted at the lower end, 1), upon a pin, 0, secured to the bracket A, and the cup B is secured to the upper end of such pin 0 by screw-threads, as shown.

It will thus be seen that the arm of the reflector and cup are fastened at one time to the bracket by the threaded pin or bolt, so that one fastening answers for both.

D is the reflector, connected in any suitable manner with the upper end of the support O. This support, being pivoted to the bracket A, as described, can be rotated upon its pivot, carrying the reflector with it, throwing the light from the reflector in any required direction.

This construction and arrangement permits the use of a large reflector-much larger even than that shown in the drawings.

Figs. 2 and 3 I am aware that a support for a reflector has been secured to the top of the cup B, such cup being so arranged that it can be rotated with the lamp, also carrying around the reflector but this is an inconvenient method, and only a small reflector can be used with the support arranged as it hitherto has been.

I have stated that my improvement is applicable to other than bracket-lamps. It may be used to advantage with chandelier-lamps and with some styles of standing lamps.

As represented, the cup or basket 13 is screwed upon the upper end of the pin 0; but a loose bolt might be used in place of the fixed pin 0, such bolt passing through the bottom of the basket or cup B, also through the support 0 and into or through the end of the bracket A.

I am aware that it is not new, in 1am p-brackets, to provide the cup or basket with a smooth pin to pass down into a recess in the bracket, and having the reflector-arm surrounding said pin, and I do not claim such as my invention. In such case, as known to me, the parts are not tightly fastened together, and are liable to become accidentally separated. By myinvention this cannot occur, as the parts are firmly and tightly united together.

What'I claim as'new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

The combination, with the bracket A, of the reflector-arm 0, cup B, and a single-threaded pin or bolt, 0, adapted to tightly lock the arm and cup together to the bracket, substantially as herein set forth.
