UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT E. XVILLIAMS, OF DALLAS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO T. G. HAMMER, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
REFLECTOR FOR LAMPS.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,215, dated June 21, 1887.
Application filed September 20, 1856. Serial No. 214,007 (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflectors for Lamps, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of theinveniion, which will enable others skilled in the IO art to which it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a partof this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my reflector adjusted to an ordinary lamp. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same attached to a lamp and so adjusted as to adapt the lamp for student use. Fig. 3 is a back elevation of the reflector and its means of attachment, and Fig. 4 represents a plan view and cross-scetion of the attachment.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures.
My invention has relation to reflectors for 2 lamps and to means for attaching the same; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts constituting the same, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, A repreo sents the reflector, which is in form an ellipsoidal shell provided near one end with an opening for thelamp chimney and at the other end with means for eonnecting'it to a lamp. Said means consist of a flat bail, B, secured to the back of the reflector, through which passes a looped wire, 0, bent in the plane of the loop into an are which conforms to the low the reflector to be swung around thelightto any desired place. The adaptability of the reflector to be tilted upon its attachment provides for its performing the office of a shade as well as of a reflector.
This reflector may be made of any desired material, glass or metal, and may be changed somewhat in shape, if desired.
Having thus fully described my invention,I elaim- In a reflector for lamps, the combination of a collar provided with ahead and having two holes through said bead, a looped wire the looped portion of which is curved and the ends of which are also curved and passed through the holes in said collar and rigidly secured within said bead, and ashell the upper end of which is provided with a hole and the lower with a bail for securing the same upon the curved portion of said loop.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
.EOBERT E. XVILLIAMS.
