SHADE AND REFLECTOR FOR ELECTRIC LIGHTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.

Be it known thatI, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN NORTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eagle Grove, in the county of Wright and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Shade and Reflector for Electric Lights, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in a shade and reflector composed of mating parts hinged together to swing horizontally relative to each other and arranged and combined with a suspended electric lamp and operative devices as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the acco1n panying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the shade and reflector connected directly with the body of a hanging lamp without any extraneous fastening device at its top as required for practical use. Fig. 2 shows an outside view of the construction of the shade and reflector composed of two mating parts hinged together and means for closing and fastening them upon a lamp and for jointly adjusting the lamp and shade and reflector when suspended.
The numerals and 12 designate the two uniform mating parts of a conical shade and reflector hinged together at their tops and bottoms to swing apart horizontally. They are provided at their free straight edges with fastening devices 13 and 14, as shown, or in any suitable way, so that they can be readily locked together into pyramidal shape as required to detachably connect their semicircular top edges direct witha lamp by simply folding the two parts together against the lamp and then detachably fastening their straight unhinged edges together by the fastening devices on said ed es.
3 chain 15 is attached on the outside and lower portion of the part 10 and a hook 16 to its upper end portion for hanging the chain on the hook as shown in Fig. 2 and a clasp 17 is fixed to the free end of the chain for adjustably and detachably connecting it with the conductor 18 to which the lamp 19 is fixed to be suspended as shown in Fig. 1 in such a manner that the lamp and re-- flector can be jointly adjusted as required to throw the light in any direction and at any degree of angle desired by simply raising and lowering the clasp 17 on the conductor 18.
Having thus set forth the purposes of my invention and the manner of its construction, application and use, its practical operation and utility will be readily understood.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
A conical shade and reflector for electric lights consisting of two uniform mating parts hinged together at their tops and bottoms to swing apart horizontally, means for detachably fastening their free straight edges together so that the top of the cone Will en gage a lamp, a chain fixed to the outside and lower end portion of one of the mating parts of the cone and a hook at its top portion to support the chain and a clamp on the free end of the chain to be adjustably connected with a conductor as set forth.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN NORTON.
