HAM-HANGER. I
Specification of Letters iatent.
Patented May 17, 1921.
Application filed April 14, 1920. Serial No. 373,827.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Josnrn VLAoH, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Hanover, in the county of Washington and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ham-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skllled in the art to which it, appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new. and useful improvements in ham hangers especially adaptable for supporting hams either on display or while being smoked and has for its primary object the provision of a supporting element and an attaching member having one end pivoted to the element and its other end detachably connected thereto so that said member may be easily and quickly passed through the opening in the shank of a ham and then secured to said supportin element and retained in connection therewlth by the weight ofthe ham, thereby obviating the danger of the ham falling or becoming detached'which is frequent when hams are supported by strings.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a ham hanger of the above stated character which shall be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
. For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating a' ham hanger constructed in accordance with my invention and applied to a ham,
ig. 2 is an end elevation illustrating the same.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the
numeral 1 indicates a supporting element constructed from a single length of material or heavy wire which has one end bent to form an eye 2 while its other end is bent to form a loop 3 adapted to receive or be placed over a support or hook. The hea wire after being bent to form the loop 3 1s twlsted about the shank l as illustrated at 4 and then bent outwardly and upwardly from said shank to form a hook or catch 5. A substantially arcuate shaped attaching member 6 1s constructed from heavy wire and has one end bent to form an eye 7 that extends or fits 1n the eye 2 for the purpose of plvotally or swivelly connecting the attachlng member 6 to the supporting element 1. The other end of the attaching member 6 is bent to form an elongated eye 8 adapted to receive the catch or hook 5 and owing to the pivotal connection between the attaching1 member and the supporting element, sai elongated eye 8 can be readily disengaged and engaged with the hook or catch. The attaching member 6 is provided with a comparatively straight portion 9 that extends at right angles to the supporting element 1 and said, attaching member then curves gradually outwardly and inwardly toward the supporting element before forming the elongated eye so that when the attaching member 6 is passed through the opening in the shank of a ham 10, said ham will suspend from the comparatively straight portion 9 thereby preventing the elongated eye from becoming detached from the hook or catch. 7
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention gated portion to close the loop and then 7 extending outwardly and upwardly into a hook, said coils also rigidifying the hook, a second section of substantially rigid material having an eyelet pivoting it to said first-named eyelet for vertical and lateral movement, the second section having a suspending portion and an elongated ortion extending therefrom, opposite the sald firstnamed elongated portion and the elongated In testimony whereof I aflix my signature portion of the second section having a3 e%onin presence of two witnesses.
ated e elet to engage said hook, sai e ongated p ortions extending on opposite sides JOSEPH VLACH 5 of a vertical line passing through the loop Witnesses:
so as to support an article on the suspending JOHN MERE, Jr. portion in the line of the center of gravity. GERTRUDE IMMING.
