ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 5,1913.
Application tiled June 29, 1912. Serial No. 706,742.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, RoLLin C. SAGE and Jnssn R. FRUIT, citizens of the United States, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Light Fixtures, of.which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to electric light fixtures, and has for its object to provide a simple arrangement of parts so assembled that the light may be moved vertically, andwhen at a desired elevation is retained at that point by a counterbalancing means with which the device is provided.
lith the above object in view, the fixture includes a canopy adapted to be attached to a ceiling and through which the current wires pass. Fulleys are mounted upon the canopy, and the said current wires are trained around the said pulleys. Other pulleys are supported in loops with which the current wires are provided and carry a weight through the center of which the current wires pass and are then connected with the lamp in any appropriate manner.
The invention also consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of light fixture. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of another form of the fixture with parts in section.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
The fixture includes a canopy 1 which is adapted to be applied `to the ceiling of a room in any appropriate manner and through which extend current wires 2. Pulleys 3 are supported by the canopy 1, and the current wires 2. are trained around the said pulleys. The current wires 2 are also trained around pulleys 4 which carry a weight 5. The weight 5 is provided with a central opening 6 through which the current wires 2 pass. A lamp l is connected with the lower ends of the current wires 2 and in an appropriate manner. 1f desired, the pulleys 3 and 4L, the weight 5 and the upper' portions of the current wires 2 may be inclosed in a tube S which extends down from the canopy 1 as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
, freight 5 is sutliciently heavy to hold the lamp 7 at any point to which it may be adjustedthat is to say, t-he weight 5 counterbalances the weight of the lamp and its attached parts. The tube 8 'may be provided with any suitable design or ornamentation, and may support at its lower end a chandelier 9, which supports at its ends lamps 10 which may be connected with cur` rent wires 11 that pass directly from the canopy 1 down through the tube 8, thence through the chandelier 9 in the usual 1nanner.
inasmuch as the current wires 2 pass through the weight 5 and the said weight hangs pendant, the weight will have a tendency to prevent the lamp 7 from swaying, and, therefore, the presence of the weight about the said current'wires would cause the lamp to give a steady light, and by shifting the weight 5 along the current wires, the lamp 7 may be positioned at any desired distance, within its range of movement, from the ceiling or the ioor of a room.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A light fixture comprising a canopy, a pair of depending brackets secured on the bottom of the canopy, pulleys journaled in said brackets, a weight, upstanding brackets secured on said weight, pulleys journaled in said brackets, spaced flexible conductors passing downwardly through the canopy to and around the last-mentioned pulleys, thence up to and over the first-mentioned pulleys, and thence in close relation downwardly to and through the weight, and a lamp carried by the lower ends of the conductors below the weight.
2. A light fixture comprising a canopy, a pair of pulleys mounted upon the under side of the canopy, a weight, pulleys mounted on top of the weight, spaced flexible conductors passing downwardly through the canopy t0 and. Lwound the pulleys on the weight, thence In testimony whereof we aflix our sgnatures 1n presence of two wltnesses.
downwardly a. lamp earconductors opy, and thence n close relation to and through the weight, and ried by the lower ends oit' the below the weight.
