UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RALPH G. MATTHEWS, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR TO COLGATE AND COMPANY, OF' JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
SHAVING -STICK HOLDER.
Application filed October 6', 1924. Serial No. 741,836.
This invention relates to' shaving stick holders and more particularly to a me'tal container of a type in which the stick is held by the cover 0]": the container. The objectof the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the container and its cover may be held together either with the soap projected within the container or with the soap projected in reverse position and exposed for use, thus enabling the container to be used as a handle in the application of the soap to the face of the user.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device with the container partially broken away, the soap being shown projected within the container;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the device, the container partly broken away, the soap being shown projected outwardly and exposed;
Figure 3 is a section in elevation of the device in a somewhat modified form.
I have shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings an embodiment of the invention which comprises a cylindrical metal case or container 1 having a closed base. At its upper end the container is formed with the threads 2 to receive a cover member 3. The container may be reinforced by the ring i.
The cover member 3 is formed with a laterally projecting thumb piece 3* and with threaded portions at opposite sides thereof. The lower threaded portion 5 is formed as a cup to receive and hold the stick of shaving soap 6. The inner Wall of this cup may, in practice, he formed with threads to correspond with similarthreadsformed on or in the soap stick.
The upper threaded portion 7 of the cover member is adapted to be'threaded within the upper portion of the casing 1, thus reversing the position of the stick of shaving soap 6, as illustrated in Figure 2. In this position of the device, the casing 1 may be used as a handle in the application of the soap stick to the face of the user, this being particularly convenient and desirable when the formed with a socket at its top, the wall of the socket being threaded at 8 so as to be received upon the threaded upper end of the casing l, the device being in other respects the same as that illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
From the foregoing it will be noted that the invention is not confined to the specific embodiments illustrated in the drawings. For example, any desired means may be employed whereby the cover may be held on the container with the soap projected within the latter or projected in reverse position and exposed, when in use, thus permitting the container to be used as a handle in the application of the soap to the face of the user.
piece, the'closure having a shallow extension above said thumb piece, which extension is threaded and merges into the top'wall of the closure.
1n testimonywhereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
RALPH e. MATTHEWS.
