Description

Dec. 3, 1946.
| L. BAssETT LIPSTICK APPLICATOR AND CONTAINER COMBINATION Filed April' 12, 1944 Patented Dec. 3, 1946 i UNITED STATES LIPSTICK APPLICATOR AND CONTAINER COMBINATION Lloyd L. ,Bassett, West Los: Angeles, Calif... Application April 12, 1944, Serial No. 530,647
- 1 This invention relates to a lipstick applicator and container therefor, in combination, to the end that the applicator will at all times be protected and may be placed in position for use.
It is generally aimed to provide a novel manner in which lipstick may be applied directly as a regular cream rouge without the necessity of employing a pad saturated with a liquid.
I aim to provide the invention in one form as a container having separable parts, with means whereby an applicator may be extended to operative position when the parts are relatively open, and which applicator is capable of being discarded and replaced after use, it also being an object to provide the mounting means for the applicator in the nature of a movable spring which will tend to hold the parts releasably in open position.
Various additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrating an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in end elevation of one form of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the form of Figure 1 with the closure in closed position;
Figure 3 is a cross section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is an elevation of the applicator detached.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, a container is provided having relatively movable sections l and II. Section [0 has an arcuate wall I 2 preferably extending a little more than one hundred and eighty degrees and also has end Walls at (3 in theform of annular discs.
Said section II has end wallsin the form of discs l4 located within the section In and pivotally connected at l to the end walls l3. An arcuate wall I6 is integral with the end walls It and the section II constitutes a closure for the section [0, preferably with the arcuate wall l6 extending slightly less than 180 degrees and disposed so as to be movable to open position within the section III between wall l2 and the axis of the rivet or the like I5. Along one longitudinal edge of the wall IS, a radially outward rib I1 is provided which funct ons as a handle to facilitate manipulation, and also as a stop by abutment against the opposite longitudinal edges of the 3 Claims. (01. 132-88.7)
2 wall l2, to limit the opening and closing movement of the closure H.
A track I8 is provided centrally on the exterior of the wall l2 and may consist of spaced flanges I9 having a slot between them. Slidably disposed in the track overlapped by the flanges I9 is an arcuate spring metallic or other strip 2| which is slidable through manipulation of a key or button 22 which extends outwardly through the slot. It will be noted that the element 2| also extends through a slot 23 provided in wall l2 and thence into the interior of the container, fitting and conforming to the shape of the engaged portion of wall I 2 on its interior.
The free end of the spring strip 2| carriesa lipstick applicator 24, of any suitable design. This applicator is preferably V-shape in cross section as shown in Figure 3, with the walls of the applicator containing bodies 25 of lipstick for direct application to the lips. This lipstick is the regular cream rouge type and it is arranged in zones as shown according to the shape of the lips against which they are to be pressed, and which zones may be arranged according to lips which are parted or which are held in contact as pre-' taching arm 26 preferably provided with clasp arms 21 having spring action so as to removably grip and detachably engage the spring strip 2|, It will be noted that the portion of the spring strip 2| within the container will be en aged by the wall N5 of the closure when the latter is in open position so that the spring will tend to hold the closure against accidental closing.
When the container is open, lipstick applicator 24 may be projected to an advantageous position for application of the lipstick to the lips, by moving the button 22 in slot 20. Also, the action of the spring 2| in any position by its contact with adjacent parts, will tend to hold it against accidental displacement therefrom.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention, as hereinafter defined by the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A. device of the class described comprising a container, said container consisting of walls of arcuate cross section and end walls, the end walls portion thereof on the exterior of one of the arcuate walls and extending into the container, an applicator carried at the inner end of the strip, and means operable to move the strip from the exterior of the container to project the applicator through the opening,
2. A device of the class described comprising a container, said container consisting of walls of arcuate qrossisection and end walls, theend walls being pivotallyconnected togetherand one arv cuate wall being movable over the other to open the container, a spring strip slidably mounted at a portion thereof on the exterior .of one of the ari an applicator carried at the inner end of the cuate walls and extending into the container, a'nf applicator carried at the inner end of the strip, means operable to move the strip from the exte-' rior of the container to project the applicator,
through the opening, said strip being" a spring strip, meansoperable to move the strip from the exterior of the container to project the applicator through the opening, said applicator having clasp means thereon detachably engaging the strip at its inner end.
