Description

J.. FOGARTY 2,279,781 CONTAINER AND DISTRIBUTOR OF LIP STAINING MATERIAL April 14, 1942.
Filed Feb. 24, 1941 Patented Apr. 14, 1942 CONTAINER AND DISTRIBUTOR OF LIP STAINING MATERIAL James Fogarty, Randwick, New South Wales,
. Australia Application February 24, 1941, Serial No. 380,269
3 Claims.
My invention relates to the application of coloring material to the lips and provides a device for that purpose whereby a staining medium preferably in the form of thin paste and of the nature of the material which in solid form is generally known as lip stick, is conveniently carried and applied.
According hereto the coloring medium is carried in a container, the ends whereof are cylindrical and the part between them having a longitudinal rib or fin produced by converging planes at opposite angles to the axis of the container, and wherein are perforations through which the staining medium is expressed as hereinafter described.
An embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawing which, except where indicated by the claiming clauses hereof is not intended to limit the invention to details of construction.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view.
Fig. 2 a central section.
Fig. 3 a sectional end elevation on AA Fig. l, and
Fig. 4 an end elevation with a cap removed.
A hollow container I having cylindrical ends has a V-shaped longitudinal fin 2 formed by the converging slightly concave surfaces 3 and 4 (see Fig. 3) wherein are a number of relatively small perforations 5 through which a desired portion of the contents of the container may from time to time be expressed.
Walls 6 surrounding the surfaces may be contoured as desired, for example, the shape of lips may be reproduced as shown in Fig. 1.
Within the container is an expresser (see Figs. 2 and 4), comprised of a rocking bar 1 of thin metal having diverging wings 8 and 9 the edges whereof are close to the semi-cylindrical middle portion of the container. Projecting from one end of the expresser is a stem I0 which fits freely into a hole in the closed end I I of the container, while its opposite end has a sided projection l2 which during manufacture is fixed in a knurled cap l3 rotatably mounted upon an enlargement l4 of the end of the container.
The cap is retained upon the container by an inwardly projecting flange ring l5 and for convenience in assemblage, and to facilitate the dharging of the container with the staining medium, the cap may be produced with an opening which after the charging has been effected and the cap passed upon the container from the closed end opposite the flange ring, is sealed by a closure disc 5 indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
The container when out of use is carried in a removable cylindrical case I! shown in Fig. 2.
To apply the staining medium the container is removed from its case and the fin having been inserted between the lips, the expresser is rocked to and fro by means of the cap l3 whereby the wings 8 and 9 by approach to the inner sides of the surfaces 3 and 4 express a relatively small quantity of the staining medium through the perforations. The device is then removed and the lips pressed together and moved over each other to evenly distribute the staining medium over them.
I claim:
1. A device for the purpose set forth comprising in combination a container for staining material, a longitudinal V-shaped fin produced by converging surfaces upon the outside thereof, an expresser mounted in the container and a cap upon its end by which it is turned to express fluid through perforations in said surfaces.
2. A device for the purpose indicated comprising in combination a container having cylindrical ends, an integral longitudinal V-shaped fin located between said ends and produced by converging planes and a rocking bar having limited rotary movement within the container and having integrally formed wings whereby coloring medium is expressed from the container through perforations in said fin.
3. In a device for the purpose indicated the combination of a container having cylindrical ends and a semi-cylindrical portion located between said ends, a V-shaped fin integral with the container and extending longitudinally between said ends, a rocking bar partially rotatable within the container, wings upon said rocking bar the edges whereof are close to the inner surface of said semi-cylindrical portion of the container, and a cap rotatably mounted upon the casing whereby said rocking bar is operable to cause the wings to express coloring medium through perforations in said fin.
JAMES FOGARTY.
