In that embodiment of my invention shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive, the detachable applicator consists of a collar 13, internally bored and screw threaded to fit the screwthreaded neck 13 of the tube, the lower'sur- 1J face 14 of the collar 13 being inclined to render it substantially complemental to surface 12. The peripheral surfaceof the collar 13 is slightly tapered, being inclined downwardly and outwardly.

16 and 17, respectively, and side walls 18, the front and rear Walls being relatively Wide at their upper margins andthe side walls relatively .narrow and diminishing i-n width toward the top, thereby forming an elongated relatively narrow mouth 19 at the top of the applicator head.' The margin of the front wall 16 is preferabl formed with a bead 20 and the rear wall 1l is recessed inwardly from its be 1 top to receive a flexible brush 21 offany suitable material. In the position shown in the full lines in Fig. 2, the brush 21 is in normal position with the cap removed, and in dotted lines the brush is shown in the position it assumes when the cap has been removed and the brush is used to spread paste or other material. The mouth 19 is in communication with the conventional opening in the collapsible tube so the material in the container may be forced through the chamber 22 and mouth 19 as desired. A cap 23 adapted to frictionally engage the tapered surfaceof the collar 13 is shown in position on the applicator in Fig. 3. The inner surface of the top lof the cap engages the brush 21 and moves it downwardly into contact with the-bead 20 to seal the mouth 19 of the container when the device is not in use.

Referring to the modiiiedV form shown in Figs. 4 and 5,l it will be noted that the applicator comprises a collar 24 which may be smaller in diameter than the collar 13. The applicator head is similar to the head described in connection with Fi s. 1 to 3 and the corresponding parts have een indicated 23 is dispensed with and a closure member 25 is provided. The closure 25 is hingedly connected to the. rear wall`17 by the hinge 26. The part 25 preferably is made of spring metal, the front hook end 27 frictionally engaging the bead 20 on wall 16 as clearly shown in Fig-4. By manually moving the closure 25 on its hinge 26, the applicator brush 21 is allowed to assume the ppsition shown in Fig. 2. 10

Referring to the modified form shown in Fig. 6, the collapsible tube 28 is provided with an integral applicator head-29, the upper portion of which is shaped as already described in connection with other gures. A brush 2l is inserted in a recess in one of the elongated walls of the head 29, and when the cap 23 is moved downwardly, it contacts with the bead 20 to seal the mouth of the tube.

Obviously, changes in details of construction may be made without departing from the scope of my invention and I do not intend to be limited tc the exact form and details of construction shown and described, except as pointed out in the appended claims.

I claim l. A container having an applicator at one end comprising a head having a relatively narrow elongated mouth in communication with the interior or" the container, a flexible brush mounted in the head adjacent one longitudinal-margin of the mouth, and closure means adapted to fit over the head and to engage the brush, thereby maintaining the brush in contact with the margins of the mounted in the head adjacent one longitudinal margin of the mouth, a bead formed on the opposite longitudinal wall, and closure means adapted to fit over the head, and to engage the brush, thereby maintaining the brush in Contact with the bead on the mouth of the applicator when the closure means is in position on the, applicator.

A conventional collapsible tube having an externally screw-threaded neck, arnapplicator comprising a collar internally bored and screw-threaded mounted on the neck, a head formed on the collar provided with a relatively narrow elongated mouth in communication with the tube neck, a flexible brush mounted in the head and adjacent one longitudinal margin of the mouth, andv closure means adapted to lit over the head and to engage the brush, -thereby maintainin the brush in contact with the margins o the mouth of the applicator when the closure means is in position on the applicator.
