' M15-STICK HOLDER.
Application led August 10, 1923. Serial No. 656,639.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ADonPH C. REGKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakville, in the county of Litchfield and Stateof Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lip-Stick Holders; and I do` hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a view in elevationof a lip-stick holder constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion of the cosmetic-container and cap being broken away.
Fig. 2 a view thereof, partly in elevation and partly in central longitudinal section onA Fig. 3 a view substantially corresponding to Fig. 1, but with the cap removed and the plunger slightly moved to begin to expel the cosmetic.
Fig. 4 a view in transverse section onthe line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 a detached view, partly in elevation and partly in section, of the tubular cosmetic-container, with one corner of its inner end broken away.
Fig. 6 a corresponding view of the cap thereof.
Fig. 7 a corresponding view of the plunger thereof.
My invention relates to an improved lipl stick holder, the object being to produce, at l a low cost for manufacture, a simple, convenient, and attractive toilet accessory of the character described.
With `these ends in view, my invention consists in a lip-stick holder having certain details of construction and combination of parts as will be vhereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.'`
In carrying out my invention, as herein shown, I employ a tubular cosmetic-container 10'of oval cross-section, its open outer end being normally closed by a removable cap 11 encircled by a struck-up bead or fillet 12 and normally retained in place by friction. The inner end of the container 10 is formed with a circular opening 13 for the receptionl of the round bolster 14 of the handle 15 of a cup-like plunger or follower 16 of ovalcross-section and fitting snugly within the container 10. The bottom of the said plunger is perforated at 17 for the reception of retaining-lingers 18 offsetting from the bolster 14 and serving not only to secure the plunger to the bolster 14 and so to the handle 15, but also to anchor the lipstick 19 by its inner end within the said follower, so that it will be retracted therewith against the friction of its sides on the inside wall of the container 10. It is to be noted that the bolster is larger in diameter than ,the opening 13 and that the handle 15 is at no point larger ,in diameter than the said opening, so that, while the handle is prevented from being drawn rearwardly out of the bottom of the container, as shown by Figure 2, it may be inserted thereinto from the open outer end thereof, at which time the handle passes rearwardly through the opening 13.
In assembling and charging my improved lip-stick holder, the handle 15 is passed through the open outer end of the container 10 and through the opening 13 therein until brought to a stop by the seating of the bolster 14 in the opening 13, as shownl in Figure 2, in which position the follower or plunger 16 is located in the bottom of the container 10, which is now filled with a suitable cosmetic 19 in the form4 of a paste which takes the ova-l form of the container. In the intended use of the holder, the plunger is advanced a little at a time inthe container, so as to project the cosmetic from the open outer end thereof, as required, the handle and plunger being held in any desired relation to the container by the friction of the plunger upon the lcontainer and by the adhesion between the cosmetic and the inner walls thereof.
I claim:
In a lip-stick holder, the combination with a tubular sheet-metal container open at its outer end and contracted at its inner end, of a plunger-like handle provided with a bolster too large t-o pass through the con- "tracted opening at the inner end of the container, a cup-like follower located within the container, and means projecting from the inner face of the said bolsterl for securing the follower thereto and for anchoring meteo@ j l the inner end of the lip-stick therein, the I In testimony. whereof, I have ysigned this seid handle, bolster' and follower forming u specification in the presence of two subunit adapted to be Withdrawn from and mscribing Witnesses. sex-ted into the container through the open ADOLlPH-C. REC. -5 outer end thereof, the handle proper ro- Witnesses:
jecting through the contracted inner-en of JOHN W. HAND, the container when the device is assembled. JOHN S. NnAeLn.
