Application s m 12, ms, Serial No. 225,382
This invention relates to an improved detachable dispensing cap for tooth paste, shaving cream, and other similar tubes. The invention has for its object to provide a cap to fit any dispensing tube and one which can be readily removed from the tube when the latter is empty and placed on another tube; the invention being simple in construction and emcient in operation.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts and combination of parts hereinafter more 'fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claim.
It In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a dispensing tube having my invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a detail side elevation of the dispensing cap.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of Figare 2 showing the inner tube in the closed posi- Figure 4 is a similar view to Figure 3 with the inner tube shown in full and in the open position.
Figure 5 is a top plan view of Figure 2.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, l designates a tube for containing tooth paste, shaving cream, etc., 2
represents the cylinder of the-dispensing cap and is internally threaded at its lower end to fit the screw-threaded portion of the tube i, and is also provided with a circumferential groove 3 forming a shoulder 4 at the upper edge thereof. Within the cylinder 2 is a tube 5 formed with a hollow head 0 on its upper end and an annular flange I on its lower end. The said head 5 is provided with a shoulder on its lower end adapted to rest 40 -upon the upper edge of the cylinder 2 when the -capisclosed. Thistube lisadaptedtomoveup anddowninthecylinder I with theiiange'l projecting into the groove 3. The upward movement of the tube 5 is limited by the flange 1 coming into contact with the shoulder 4, as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing. The tube 5 is also provided on one side thereof with an aperture 8 which permits the paste to be forced therethrough when the tube 5 is in the raised position, as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing.
To use my ,invention, it is only necessary to remove the usual cap from the tube and to screw the cylinder 2 on the tube in place of the said usual cap, the parts then being in the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawing. When it is desired to use the paste. in the tube I, it is forced 15 up by pressing on the bottom of the said tube i, forcing the paste up into the tube 5 which causes said tube to raise to the position shown in Figure 4 of the drawing when the paste will flow out through the aperture 8, and when sufllcient paste has passed out of the aperture 8, the tube 5 is forced down into the cylinder 2 by pressing on the head 6 until the tube 5 assumes the closed V position, as shown in Figure 3 of the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I 2 a claim is: 5
. of said cylinder, the lower end of said tube being open and provided with an annular flange projecting into said annular groove of said cylinder and adapted to limit the outward movement of said tube and having an aperture inone side thereof. 7
