2 Claims. (Cl. 215-43) This invention relates to closures for containers, and has for an object the provision of new and improved devices of this character.

The embodiment of the closure herein shown comprises cap means l0, having a skirt portion 20 H and a top portion l2. The cap means I0 is preferably formed of substantially rigid material, such as hard rubber or other plastic composition. The exterior of the skirt portion H is roughened, such as by fluting [3 herein shown, or as 25 by knurling or the like, to provide a surface which may be readily grasped by a user of the closure. The interior of the skirt portion ii is formed with interior screw-threads i4, adaptto cooperate with exterior screw-threads i5 30 formed on the neck l6, of a container, such as the bottle ll herein shown.

Extending inwardly of the cap means i0, from the inner surface i8 of the top portion I2, is a tapering projection l9 providing an annular in- 5 clined sealing surface 2|. At least a part of the projection i9 is adapted to extend within th opening 22 of the bottle neck I 6, and the surface 2! is constructed and arranged to engage the lip surrounding the bottle opening 22 in sealing relation, as best shown in Figure 2.

It is recognized that there are on the market closures for the purpose of the present closure, but provided with an interior washer that is more or less compressible, to serve as a sealing means;

45 however, with the present closure the use oi any such washer is entirely unnecessary.

From the foregoing it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that I have accomplished at least the principal object of my invention, and it also will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the embodiment herein described may be variously changed and modified, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and 5 that the invention is capable of uses and has advantages not herein specifically described; hence it will be appreciated that the herein disclosed embodiment is illustrative only, and that my invention is not limited thereto. v 10 I claim:

1. A. closure for a container having a neck surrounding the opening into the container, comprising: cap means, formed of hard plastic material, having a skirt portion adapted to embrace the neck of the container, and having also an integral top wall adapted to overlie the opening into the container, said top wall having an integral substantially frusto-conical projection formed of hard plastic material, extending from the inner surface of said top wall and adapted to seal the opening into the container, the inclining wall of said projection being so constructed and arranged as to have limited peripheral surface contact with the surface defining the lip of the opening, the terminating surface of said projection being substantially flat and so arranged with respect to said inclining wall as to extend not materially beyond the terminating margin of the neck.

2. For use with a bottle having a neck formed with a substantially cylindrical opening terminating in an annular small radius filet merging with the terminating margin of the neck, a closure comprisingz' cap means, formed of hard plastic material, having a skirt portion adapted to embrace the neck, and having a top wall adapted to overlie the terminating margin of the neck; and sealing means, for sealing said bottle opening; formed of hard plastic material, carried by said cap means to extend from the inner surface of said top wall, and having a substantially conical defining wall so constructed and arranged as to have substantially line peripheral surface contact with the surface defining the annular 4.5
