Abstract

527,140. Closures for containers. FREEMAN, W. S. Aug. 23, 1939, No. 24237. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure for a container consists of a cap fitted over the mouth of the container together with, or subsequent to, a separately formed plug furnished with deformable resilient means to provide an adequate seal with the wall of the container mouth. The cap 2a, Fig. 2, has internal threads 3 to screw on to the container and the resilient plug 8 has serrations 6 which seal and hold it to the container. The plug which may be hollow or solid has a head 5 to retain it in the cap, with or without the rib 7. The deformable serrations may have one inclined face as shown, or both faces may be inclined, or they may be formed by concave grooves running round the periphery of the plug, or the plug itself may be of bulbous formation. In the modification shown in Fig. 12 the head 5 and plug 25 may be made of non-resilient material, and the plug carries a separate resilient sleeve 26 with peripheral serrations 6. The further modification shown in Fig. 14 has a cap 2e with a resilient sleeve 30 having serrations 6 which contact with the inside and outside of the container neck.
