Description
8, 1947. A. N. TURNES COSMETIC APPLICATOR Filed July 26, 1945 Inventor Patented Feb. 18, 1947 UNITE S'i' This invention relates to an applicator for a lip stain and has for an object to provide an automatic lip shaping tint applicator.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device for the application of either a flaccid waxy or liquid stain.
A further object of this invention is to provide a lipstick having the configuration of a pair of lips. A still further object of the invention is to provide the combination of a lipstick and an applicator therefor, each conforming to the shape of a pair of lips.
Yet another object of my invention is to provide a lip tinting apparatus so formed that the tinting may be applied accurately without a mirror and in the dark when required.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lip tinting applicator,
Figure 2 is a similar view, the cover being removed,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the device,
Figure 4 is a top plan View of the applicator,
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view thereof,
Figure 6 is a sectional View taken on line 6-6 of Figure 4,
Figure '7 is a sectional view on line l'|, Figure 4,
Figure 8 is a detail perspective view of a lip stick holder,
Figure 9 is a perspective View of a holder and liquid stain applicator.
In the accompanying drawing as above enumerated and in the following specification, like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout and in which It], indicates my lip coloring device which consists of a plastic (or metal) case II, having a removable bottom wall l2, and a removable top i3. ihe somewhat reduced in width ends l4 and id, of the case are preferably formed solid with exception. of bores l5 and H, with longitudinal slots l8 and 59, extending into the interior 2B, of the case and in reference to which more will be said later. Projecting from the upper surfaces 2| and 22, of said ends M and I5, are fingers 23 and 2d, integral with said ends, and which project through slots 52-5 and 25, in said top IS. The edges 25 and 2'4, of the bowed center side wall portions 29 and 28, of the case, are shaped to the contour of a pair of fem- 5 Claims. (Cl. 13288.7)
inine lips. The bottom wall is provided with a central aperture 30.
Seated within the interior 20, of the case M, is a lipstick actuating member 3|, which is concavo-convex and to its convex surface 32, at the center thereof is a plastic (or other) push button 33, which normally projects through the opening 30, in the bottom wall of the case. On each side of the button 33, and formed integral with the member 3|, are a pair of fins 34 and 35, each terminating in extensions 36 and 31, which terminate in piston like members 38 and 39, operative with longitudinally split cylinders 46 and 4|, and seating upon coil springs 42 and 43, seated in the cylinders and adapted to press the members 38 and 39, normally to the wall I2, of the case whereby the button 33, is held outward of the case as clearly shown in Figure 6, of the drawing. The extensions 36 and 31, operate slidably through the splits 44 and 45, of said cylinders and the slots l8 and IS, in the ends M and I5, of the case whereby the member 3|, moves in a perfect- 1y straight line, and without deviation from its course, the purpose of which will presently become obvious.
Seated within the concavity 46, of member 3|, is a lipstick or waxy stain 41, shaped exactly to the desired contour or outline of a pair of female lips and conforming to the edges 26' and 27, of the case I], and is of the identical shape of the pad of Figure 8, which is to be referred to later. Concavities 58 and 55, formed in the outer wall surfaces 59 and 5|, are for finger holds. Embedded in said Walls and 5|, are the rightangular terminals 52 and 53, of spring clips 54 and 55, the rolled terminals 56 and 5'1, of which are adapted to spring over the end edges 53 and 59, of the top I3.
The member 3|, is provided with an intermediate elongated flange 60, projecting from and integral with its concave surface 46, which flange is provided with apertures, through which the body portion of the lipstick 41, extends .and whereby the same is held to its seat. The side walls 63 and 64, and their edges 65 and 66, are shaped to the contour of the sides and edges of the case M. The fingers 23 and 24, are guides and to be placed in the corners of the mouth to correctly direct the wedge-shaped outer portion 51, of the lipstick 41, between the lips of the user in order that the projection 68, of the cupids bow formation of the edge 26', of the case and the similar outline 69, of side wall 10, of the lipstick may be correctly centered upon the upper lip of the user. The fact that the mouth of diiferent users are of varying lengths will have no material effect in the use of my device as the user may easily contract the lips for engagement with both of said members 23 and 24, or on the other hand, the lips may be readily stretched lengthwise by them, and in any case the application of the tint will be correctly applied and centered and without the use of a mirror.
In Figure 9, of the drawing I illustrate a slight modification of the invention, in which is fixedly seated on the member 3|, an absorbent pad H, which is identical in configuration to the lipstick 41, and which may be periodically infused with a liquid lip stain and which is used in the same case and same manner.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device as described a lip-shaped case for applying a stain contained therein, a form for carrying the stain, said form being slidable and spring pressed in one direction, means for manual actuation thereof in the opposite direction, a removable bottom wall for the case, said means projecting through an aperture in said wall, means for centering the device upon the lip of the user, said centering means being integral with the walls of the case, a top for the case having apertures through which said centering means project, said stain being in plastic form, and having a cupids bow outline.
2. In a device as described a lip-shaped case for applying a stain contained therein, a form for carrying the stain, said form being slidable and spring pressed in one direction, means for manual actuation thereof in the opposite direction, a removable bottom wall for the case, said means projecting through an aperture in said wall, means for centering the device upon the lip of the user, said centering means being integral with the walls of the case, a top for the case having apertures through which said centering means project, and said stain being in plastic form.
3. In a device as described a lip-shaped case for applying a stain contained therein, a form for carrying the stain, said form being slidable and spring pressed in one direction, means for manual actuation thereof in the opposite direction, a removable bottom wall for the case, said means projecting through an aperture in said wall, means for centering the device upon the lips of the user, said centering means being integral with the walls of the case, and a top for the case having apertures through which said centering means project.
4. In a device as described a lip-shaped case for applying a stain contained therein, a form for carrying the stain, said form being slidable and spring pressed in one direction, means for manual actuation thereof in the opposite direction, a removable bottom wall for the case, said means projecting through an aperture in said wall, means for centering the device upon the lips of the user,
and said centering means being integral with the walls of the case.
5. In a device as described a lip-shaped case for applying a stain contained therein, a form for carrying the stain, said form being slidable and spring pressed in one direction, means for manual actuation thereof in the opposite direction, a removable bottom wall for the case, said means projecting through an aperture in said wall, and means for centering the device upon the lips of the user.
