UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. KENDALL, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOB TO HENRI BIGA'UD, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ALSO KNOWN AS PABFUMERIE RIGAUD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LIP-STICK HOLDER.
Application fled August 2, i922. Serial No. 519,242.
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known that WILLIAM G. KENDALL, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jerse have invented a new and Imroved Liptick Holder, of which the folowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
The resent invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet articles, cosmetics and the like, and it pertains more particularly to a means for retaining lip sticks and similar forms of cosmetics.
It is one of the objects of the invention to rovide a new and improved form of holder or, lip sticks and the like in which the cosmetic .may be enclosed within a casing or housing when not in use.
It is a further object of the invention to so construct the casing or housing that it is adapted to project the cosmetic therefrom when it is desired to use the same.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawin in whichlgure 1 is a view in elevation of the cosmetic holder or container in closed position' Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof with the cosmetic in projected position; and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fi re 1.
Referring more particular y to the drawings, the reference character 11 designates the stick of cosmetic and said cosmetic stick is carried within a tubular container or the like 12. This tubular container 12 is mounted within a second tubular member 13 and passing through the said tubular member 13 IS a screw 14, this screw 14 bein permanently carried by the member 12. he tubular member 13 is rovided with an elongated slot 15 in which't e screw 14 is adapted to be received in order to permit of a sliding movement between the members 12 and 13.
The reference character 16 designates an outer container or housing and said outer container or housing is rovided with a spiral slot 17 within whic the screw 14 is ada ted to o erate.
e outer ousing 16 is rovided with an annular channel 18 and t e member 13 is provided with an annular head 19 adapted to e received within the annular channel 18 to retain the members 13 and 16 together in o erative relation. It is to be understoos; however, that the annular head 19 is freely revoluble within the annular channel 18.
In order to close the end of the member 16, a cap 20 is provided and said cap 20 is adapted to be removably engaged with the open end of the member 16.
The device operates in the following manner: When it is desired to use the cosmetic the cap 20 is removed and the lower end of the member 13 is grasped and said member 13 is rotated. As the member 13 is rotated the side edge of the slot 15 will engage the screw 14 and tend to rotate the same therewith. Upon rotating the member 13 the screw 14 passes through the spiral slot 17 and will cause the carrier 12 to move Ion itudinally of the member 16 and project t e cosmetic 11 therefrom, as shown in Figure 2. After the cosmetic has been used it is retracted into the member 16 by rotatin member 13 in the opposite direction and a r the cosmetic has been retracted into the member 16 the'cap 20 is again replaced to close the outer container or housing 16.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved form of cosmetic holder in which the cosmetic may be rojected when desired for use and retracted when not in use in order that it may be contained within a sanitary enclosure when not in use.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claime is:
1. In a device of the character described, comprising an outer casing rovided with a spiral slot, a tubular mem er mounted in said casing and provided with a straightslot, an article carrier mounted within said second tubular member, and means carried b the article carrier and proiecting throng the strai ht slot of the tubu ar member and the spiral slot of the outer member, whereby upon rotation of the tubular member the article carrier will be projected from the container.
2. As an article of manufacture, a container having a s irally disposed slot, a slotted tubular mem r mounted within said container and having one of its ends projected beyend the enci of the container to prowherehy upon rotation of the tubular memvide means for rotetlng the tubular member her the ertiole carrier will be moved longiwithin the zcgntamer, an article carrier tudinally of the tubular member to pro'ect 1o niounted'f wi'thm the tubular member and the article carried thereby from the en of 5 means. carriedby the article carrier and prothe container.
