This invention relates to toilet accessories and particularly'to cosmetic dispensers of a type in which lipstick or the .like is contained Within areceptacle and dispensed therefrom as required.

It has been determined that more ecient use of the lipstick can be obtained if its end is beveled. However, the use of such lipsticks presents a yserious problem inasmuch as the top thin-edge of the lipstick wears clown faster than the remaining portion and thus there is a tendency for thelipstick to build up at the lower side of the inclined end to not only defeat'the purpose of the slanted end but cause malformation of the lipstick and spreading of the built-up surplus over the side of the containertosoil the ngers of the user. Moreover, since previous deviceshave nomeans for supporting the sides of the upper projecting end of the lipstick, the latterj is apt to bend and break during use. Furthermore, such lipstick holders are non-refillable and must be discardedwhen the supply of lipstickhas been depleted.

The present invention was conceived. as "a means for obviating the above outlined faults ofprior cosmetic dispensers and it is one object to provide a holder of the type indicated having a lipstick receptacle provided witha removable lower end to adapt a fresh supply or rell t be inserted therein. y l i *v Another object is toprovide a 'lipstick holder having a member attached to the lipstick and slidable within the receptacle, and an operating ring engaging the member and having a threaded engagement with the receptacle whereby to cause the lipstick to be fed inv either direction upon relative rotation between'the ring and receptacle.l This is important as it permits retraction of the lipstick into the receptacle'when not inuse. y .L

Referring first to Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawing,

When it is desired to ref`1l1 the device the cap 2D may be forced off from the end of the barrel and the ring 33 unscrewed from the barrel to release the slide element which may be replaced by a new element and fresh lipstick and the parts reassembled in the manner above explained. It will be noted, however, that the same slide element may be reused, provided that the remaining lipstick is removed therefrom and the fresh lipstick forced into its interior. As is common in lipstick holders, a cylindrical cover may be employed for enclosing vthe barrel, the present drawing indicating such a removable cover by dotand-dash lines and the reference character 28 in Fig. 1. As shown, the cover 28 vmay have screw threads to adapt it to be screwed onto the external threads of the cap 2D.

It will be observed from the foregoing that the present invention licrovides la simple-yet ingenious lipstick holder incorporating novel features of improvement not fpresent in similar cosmetic dispensers of previous types. For example, through the improvedconstruction the lipstick can be quickly and conveniently projected and retracted c as required. Moreover, by bevelingthe upper end of the receptacle or ybarrel which has anovatelyshaped bore, the en d of the lipstick will be maintained at the desired angle and its upper edge :or tip, which usually wears down at a greater rate, will have a larger area *than thelower portion Aof its sloping surface thereby insuring amoreeven distribution of the cosmetic to the lips. Because the sides of the lipstick are suitably supported by the barrel throughout its entire length, the tendency of the lipstick to break or bend during use is entirely eliminated. As an added feature of improvement the lower end of the receptacle is closed by a cap which is merely snapped on, thus veliminating costly and complicated fastening means. The parts of the device may be made from any suitable material such as plastics to aiord a pleasing appearance and are easily and' quickly assembled without the use of tools or the exercise of special skill.

Furthemore, the present invention provides a novel form of lipstick and the like for use in the improved holder herein described or in other types of holders and dispensers. The improved applicator stick which is of ovate cross section has at least one beveled end with the vertex of the bevel Y arranged adjacent that portion of the ovate contour of greatest area to compensate for the normal faster wearing away of the stick at the tip.

While the improved. cosmetic dispenser and lipstick have been herein shown and described as embodied in preferred forms of construction by way of example, I do not intend to be limited to the specic disclosure contained herein since various changes, modications, and substitutions may be incorporated in the exemplary embodiments disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I hereby reserve the right to all such changes, modifications, and substitutions as properly come within the scope of my appended claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a lipstick receptacle having an ovately-shaped bore throughout its length for receiving a lipstick of similar cross section and having an obliquely beveled end, the vertex of the bevel being arranged adjacent that portion of the ovate bore of greatestarea; and means for feeding said lipstick outwardly beyond said beveled end of the receptacle to adapt it to assume the slope of said beveled end when applied to use.

' 2. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle having an ovately-shaped bore for containing a lipstick or the like of similar cross section, and having an obliquely beveled end, the vertex of the bevel being arranged adjacent that portion of said ovate bore of greatest area; an element slidlable Within said bore'and adapted to be joined to the inner end of the lipstick for moving same; and means movable on the receptacle and connected to said element for sliding the latter and the lipstick longitudinally.

3. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle having a bore of ovate outline for containing a lipstick or the like of similar cross section and having an obliquely beveled end, the vertex of the bevel being arranged adjacent that portion of the ovate bore of greatest area; an element slidable within said bore and adapted to be joined td the'inner end of the lipstick for moving the same; an operating member surrounding said receptacle and connected'to slide said element; and cooperating means on said member and receptacle operative upon relative rotation therebetween to feed said element and lipstick longitudinally.

4. `A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle for containing a lipstick or the like and having' ment being provided with a lug projecting through said opening of the receptacle; and an annular member surrounding said receptacle and connected to said element, said member being provided with screw threads engageable with those on the receptacle whereby relative rotation between said member and receptacle in one direction causes the element to feed the outer end of the lipstick beyond the beveled end of the receptacle for application and rotation in the opposite direction withdraws the lipstick.

5. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle having a bore of ovate outline for containing a lipstick or the like of similarly shaped cross Section and having an obliquely beveled end, the vertex of the bevel being arranged adjacent that portion of the ovate .bore of the greatest area, and having a longitudinal opening therein; helical threads on the exterior of said receptacle; an element slidable within said receptacle and adapted to be joined to the lipstick, said elementA being provided with a lug projecting through said opening in the receptacle; and a member surrounding said receptacle and connected to said element, said member being provided with helical threads engageable with those of said receptacle whereby relative rotation between said receptacle and member causes said element to move the end of the lipstick longitudinally beyond the beveled end of the barrel and to Withdraw it vinto said receptacle, depending upon the direction of such rotation.

6.y A cosmetic dispenser comprising: a receptacle for containing a lipstick or the like; and means for feeding said lipstick `beyond the end of the receptacle for use, said receptacle having a bore of ovate outline throughout its length and an obliquely beveled end, the vertex of the bevel being positioned adjacent that portion of the ovate bore of greatest area, and said bore and bevel cooperating to evenly dispense the lipstick throughout the entire area of the bevel.

7. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle for containing a lipstick or the like and provided with external helical threads; an element slidable in said receptacle and joined to the lipstick; and operating means connected to said slidable element and engageable with said helical threads for feeding `said element and lipstick longitudinally upon relative rotation between said receptacle and operating means.

8. A cosmetic dispenser, including: a receptacle for containing a lipstick or the like, said receptacle being provided with a bore of ovate shape and a beveled end with the vertex of the bevel arranged adjacent that portion of said ovate bore of greatest area, and having longitudinal openings thereri-j a peripheral ange `ori-:said 'frecep tacle vadjacent its beveled end; a removable cap for closing the other .end of said receptacle; an
