Description

Sept. 20, 1938. s. FREEMAN I LIPSTIQK Filed Dec. 29, 1954 fllthr zegs.
Patented Sept. 20, 1938 UNITED STATES- PATENT I OFFICE This invention relates to a new and imlnfoved lipstick and has for its object the provision of an improved lipstick holder which in a single.
casing is intended to carry two lipsticks of different shades.
Another object of this invention is the provision of an improved lipstick holder of simple construction and economical both as to the manufacture thereof and to the user, in that the purchaser is able to obtain two lipsticks of different shades in one casing.
At present, lipsticks are commercially sold having one lipstick which is of course limited to one particular shade. If a user desires various l5 shades, then she must have more than one casing on hand. It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a double barrelled lipstick casing which will house more than one colered stick.
It is now fashionable among lipstick users to vary the shades of their lipsticks to correspond to their costumes or with the time of day, that is, to use one shade of lipstick in the daylight and another by artificial light. With this novel lipstick, this change of shade can be-accomplished simply by the use of one lipstick casing.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawing which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof, it being understood that the above statement of the objects of my invention is intended to generally explain the same without limiting it in any manner.
Fig. 1 is an elevation of the swivel type of lipstick casing.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with one cap removed and a lipstick extending outwardly.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. i with both caps and outer casings removed.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 with both spiral casing members omitted.
As shownin Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, there is illustrated a lipstick casing 0 having caps II and 45, and enclosing tubes 42 and N, having swivel 45 actuating means 43.
As shown in Fig. 4, lipstick. guide holder members at and 41 are provided with flanges. These guide members 46 and 41 are held together by,
the member 48. A lipstick holder 49a, having lipstick L slidably mounted in guide member 41, is provided with a pin-5il which slides in slot 52 and projects above the surface of the member 51.
Now as shown in Fig. 3 the members 46 and 41 5 are provided with spiral means members 44 and 450. respectively. The member a; is provided with the usual spiral groove Sc and the member 55a is provided also with a spiral groove Sa. In
addition the members Ma and 45a are" provided 1 with horizontal slots S and Sb respectively. The
'slots'S and Sb are used when the pins 88 and 50 respectively are idling. Then, when looking at Figs. 1 and 3 the member 53 is turned counterclockwise, the pin 48 will idle in the slot S and in 15 slot 5| while the pin 50 will act against the side of the spiral slot Sc. and the sidesof slot 52, and
the lipstick L will beprojected out of the casing 41. To repel the lipstick L the member 43 is rotated in a clockwise direction, and if this 1 have been removed, so as not to damage the lipsticks. 30
I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention but it is clear that numerous changes and omissions can be made without departing from its spirit.
I claim: 35
1. In combination, a lipstick holder which is open at both ends thereof, two lipsticks located .within said holder, each lipstick being associated with one of said ends, holding means for holding said lipsticks, said holding means being longitu 40 dinally movable relative to said holder, each lipstick being outwardly movable to be exposed through the adjacent associated end of the holder, a tubular body having actuating means,
a pair of slots formed longitudinally in said tubu- 45:
lar body, said holding means for said lipsticks slidably mounted in said tubular body, the holding means having pins whichtravel in the slots formed in. the tubular body, a pair of tubular members mounted on the tubular body adjacent the actuating member, each of the tubular members being provided with a spiral slot and a horizontal slot for retaining one end of the pin. the horizontal slot located at the end adjacent the actuating means, said horizontal slot being less in length than the circumference of the tubular member which contains the spiral and horizontal slots, and said horizontal slot intersecting the spiral slot at one end, and tubular coverings for said tubular slot members, one of said lipstick holders being idle while the other one is being actuated by the same actuating means.
2. In combination, a lipstick holder which is open at both ends thereof, two lipsticks located through the adjacent associated end of the holder, a tubular body having actuating means,
a pair of slots formed longitudinally in said tubular body, said lipstick holding means slidably mounted in said tubular body, the holding means having pins which travel in the slots formed in the tubular body, a. pair 01' -.tubular'members mounted on'the tubular body adjacent the gripping member, each of the tubular members being provided with a spiral slot and a horizontal slot located at the end adjacent the actuating means. said horizontal slot being less in length than the circumference of the tubular member which contains the spiral and horizontal slots, and said horizontal slot intersecting the spiral slot at one end, and tubular coverings for said tubular slot members.
