Description

No v. 8, 1932. w. FRIEDMAN TOILET ACCESSORY Filed Nov. 7. 1930 Patented Nov. 8, 1932 UNITED STATES 'WILLIAM narnnMAN, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOILET ACCESSORY. f
Application sied November 7, 1930. seriai No. 49s,9es.f
This invention relates totoilet accessories, and more particularly to that type of those devices which may be carried around vin a ladys handbag ready for use when desired.
The objects of the invention are to provide a portable toilet accessory for liquid contents, and particularly perfume; to prevent the stopper of the container being knocked out or otherwise inadvertently withdrawn; to provide an appropriate enclosure for the stopper for retaining the same in place; to enclose the upper end of the container as well as the stopper; to enable the device to be conveniently opened when desired; to secure simplicity of construction and operation; and to obtain other advantages and results as may be brought out in the following description.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in which like numerals of reference indicate siniilar parts throughout the several views Figures 1 and 2 are side elevations of my invention in closed and open positions respectively;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on lines 3 3Y of Fig. 2; Y
Figure 4 is an elevation of a modified construction, and v Figure 5 is a sectional View on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawing, the reference numeral 1 indicates a container of desired shape and material. Preferably such container is a glass bottle of Hat nature with the bottom rounded, said bottle having a neck 2 opposite the rounded bottom and having a stopper 3 for closing the opening extending downwardly through said neck into the container. The upper end of said stopper is also preferably rounded on the same center of curvature as the bottom part of the container. The stopper is of a character such that it will prevent leakage of the contents of the container by merely pushing the stopper home in the neck. However, such a construction is unsafe to carry around loose in a handbag as the stopper is likely'to become dislodged whereupon the contents will spill.
My invention contemplates provision of means for retaining the stopper inplace in `"such manner as not to be inadvertently refmove'd andyet readily removed when desired.
In carrying out my invention, and with p articular reference to Figures 1, 2 and'3, there is provided an enclosure here shown as com- 5 prising a body portion of flattened character to substantially lit the side faces of the conf tainer, and of a substantially semi-circular configuration providing a curvedV wall 5 and a .diametric `upper open edge 6. The container y projects from thel open edge with the neck and stopper exposed.
Hinged to the bodyportion 4 is a cover 7 i the same preferably also being' semi-circular to fit around lthe body portion in open or nested position and to swing intoclosed position in a manner such that the body portion and the cover will form substantially a comv plete, circle. The hinging is effectedin suitable inanner, as vby a rivet 8 at'each side of the device at the center of curvature, the riv-A ets beingaligned-witheach other. A suitable projecting finger piece .()jfroinV the inner of the two members, which is Vhere shown vas the body portion, enables vthe user to readily mav75 nipulate ther'device toV opened .or closed position.v In,y closed position, the cover overlies the end ofthekstopper vand preventsthe same from being knocked loose or otherwise inadvertently dislodged. v80 Y lInl order to retain the body portion in place upon'the container, the same is shown as having upstanding tabs l0 above the pivot, said tabs bending inwardly toward each other and being resilient so'that they will hug the'con- 85 tainer. Preferably Vthe upper part of the containe'r is not quite as wide as the lower part thereby aifording a grip for the tabs to engage to hold the body portion drawn tightly up to' its proper position. As a result, when 90 ever the cover is swung over the stopper, it p will not be stopped by the stopper but will pass over the top of the same for holding it.
ln Figures 4 and 5 l have showna container 11, having neck 12 and stopper 13, and., 95 having a rounded bottom. At the center of curvature said container has opposite surface indentations 14C, 111, as illustrative of pivotal 1 means A cover 15, also having a curvedV end wall and having a diametric open side is }00 VAsfo.
adapted to nest upon the bottom of the container and is arranged to swing over the stopper in closed position at that time forming with the container a substantially circular construction.
The diametric edges of the cover are provided with tabs 16, 16 preferably at the center of curvature, these tabs havingpivot means co-operating with the pivot means on the container. As here shown the tabs are center punched, as at 17, 17, thereby providing a burr Awhich will rit into the indentations 145,'
14: of the container. i The tabs are preferably resilient, pressing normally inward so as to retain the burrs in the indentations. By this means, the cover may be swung as desired but will remain upon the container under conditions of ordinaryT use.
Gther modifications and changes may be made 1n the construction and use of my 1mproved toilet accessory Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, and I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact construction shown or described except as set forth in the following claims when construed in the light of" the prior art. y
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. A toilet' accessory comprising a contain er having depressions therein, a cover. means pivoted to said container, said cover having resilient tabs and burrs, said burrs being resiliently held in said depressions by the re-V siliency of said tabs.
2. A toilet accessory comprising a contain- Ver having depressions therein and having an opening for receiving a stopper, a stopper in said opening, and a cover'means pivoted to said container with meansy 'entering said depressions as the pivot, said cover adapted to be swung into a position overlying the stop- Y lper for holding the stopper seated in its opening. a
3. A toilet accessory comprising a container having an opening for receiving a stopper, a stopper in said opening, and a cover means -pivoted to said container, said cover means and container having cooperating recesses and burrs forming the pivot, and said cover Vadapted to be swung into a position overlying the stopper for holding the stopper seated in its opening.
