1 Claim.

This invention relates to refillable containers, cartons and the like and particularly to a novel fastening means therefor.

One object f the invention is a novel fastening means which may be employed for refillable shaving sticks, lipsticks, eyebrow pencils, for canisters, etc.

In Fig. 1 I have indicated my invention as applied to a canister can or carton wherein a tongue I is shown as mounted on the interior of a closing cap or lid 80 andfollowing the interior curvature thereof in a circumferential direction. The body. of the can Si is provided with a cooperating fastening tongue l2 which is fastened to the exterior surface thereof near the upper edge and extends vertically downward. The tongue 'I is tapered in width, as indicated, and is curved to have on one side a convex edge 8 and on its other side 'aiconcave edge 9. In the particular embodiment shown, the tongue I is formed integrally with a main body part I' which is secured in any suitable manner flush against the interior cylindrical wall of the lid 30. This body part I' may be soldered, welded or otherwise fastened to the lid 30 or it may be provided with an integral fastening clip I 0 which is passed and the two readily fastened together by relatively rotating the lid and can to bring the tongue I underneath the tongue II, the curvature and shape of the tongue I contributing to the facility with which th fastening and unfastening may be effected. Practice has demonstrated that the particular shape of the tongue I with the convex and concave sides contributes toward and facilitates the interlocking and disengage.- ment operations.

In Fig. 2 I have shown an embodiment of my invention wherein a refillable holder 35 is shown for receiving shaving stick refills, lipstick refills, eyebrow pencil refills and the like. The holder is provided with a tongu I; similar to the tongue l2 of Fig. 1. It is fastened to the interior of the holder 35 and extends vertically downward. The refill 36 is provided near the lower end thereof with a fastening tongue similar to the' tongue 1 through a slot formed in the wall of the lid and bent over the edge of the slot to contact the outer surface of the wall.

The ton e 12 extends downwardly from a main body part l3 lying flush against the outer cylindrical wall of the cam 3| and soldered or otherwise fastened thereto. The body part l3 may, if' desired, also be fastened to the cam 31 by means of an integrally formed clip I which is passed inwardl through a slot formed in the wall of the cam'3l and then extended upwardly along the inner surface of the wall to and over the upper edge of the cam when it then passes downwardly flush along the outer surface of the wall of the cam.

In this case, however, it is fastened to the outside of the base 36 of the refill and follows the circumferential contour thereof. To insert the refill having th base 36, it is only necessary to insert it withinvthe holder 35 and to impart relative rotary movement to the holder 35 and the base 36 to cause the tongue 1 to pass beneath the tongue i2; and, similarly, to remove the refill or the base of the refill, it is only necessary to impart relative rotary movement in the opposite direction to release the tongue I from underneath the tongue i2- whereby the two parts may be separated by longitudinal relative movements.

' Preferably in each embodiment of the invention tongue l2 at the tip end thereof is bent in a direction away from the adjacent supporting wall to facilitate engagement of the tongues during the fastening operation.

The fastening tongues l and I2 are preferably formed of thin metal and where the devices themselves are made of thin metal these tongues may be formed integrally with the same and, as above indicated, when the tongues are not formed integrally with the devices they may be fastened in operative position in any suitable manner, as for example by soldering, welding, or the like.

Certain features of the invention are applicable to other uses than those specifically disclosed in the drawing, such for example as removable telephone number plates, removable .sanitary mouth pieces for telephones, telephone switchboard plugs, and electric bulb and socket connections. In the latter use the tongue 1 could beformedonthee xteriorof-thebulbbasqwhile thetongue liisfastenedtotheinterlorofthe 'socket shell. and multiple wall plugs may be formed in a single .unit. including a number of such sockets whereby a multiplicity of lamp bulbs maybe readily connected to a single outletin a simple and satisfactory manner.
