Be it knowny that I, IV'ILLIAM J. Huang a subject of the King of Great Britain;` and a resident ofv Hartford, in the county of HartfordA and State ot Connecticut, have invented new and Improved Vanity Cases, of which the following isa specification.

M-y invention relates tothe class of devices for containingv toilet articles, and au object of my invention, among others, is to provide av device of this class that shall" be neat in appearance and simple inv its construction, thereby enabling` it to be produced at comparatively little expense.

One form of case embodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved vanity case.

Figure 2 is a view in section through the cover.

Figure 8 is a view in section through the ox.

Figure 4L is a View in section through the box and cover assembled, but in a plane at right angles to the plane of section of' Figures 2 and 3.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 5 indicates the box that is preferably stamped to shape, as from Celluloid. This is preferably round in shape with the side located substantially at right angles to the plane of the bottom. A mirror 6 is placed upon the bottom of the box and it is held in place as by means of a retaining ring 7 that is also preferably composed of celluloid or other similar resilient material and round in cross section to increase its resiliency and that may be secured in place in any desired manner.

The cover comprises an inner member 8 that is of cup shape with a closed bottom and this is securely fitted in a recess 9 in an outer member l0 of the cover that is also of cup shape with a flange l1 projecting outwardly therefrom.

The outer member l() is formed with a projection 12 that is stamped from the closed bottom of the outer member and that extends substantially across it from side to side forming a pocket 13 for the reception of a comb or other article, and this pocket has a depression lil forming a boss for holding the comb in place; In stamping out this poclret'a depression 15 is formed in the bottonif of the outer member, a hole exe tending from said depression to the outer surface of said outer member, and'jthe depression is finally closed by the bottom portion of the inner member 8, as shown in Figure 2 of the dra-wings.

lVlien the cover is applied to the box the Hang-e 16' formed by the projecting edge of' the inner member of the cover closely lits within the box and with its edge preferably against the ring 7, and the flange ll rests upon the edge of the box and projects slightly therebeyond as an element for enabling the cover to be readily removed.

As an aid in removing the cake of powder, which the recess in the cover is formed to receive, a hole 17 is made opening through the cover from the pocket 13, as shown in Figures l and 4L of the drawing. An instrument maybe inserted through this hole back of the cake of powder and thereby the latter may be readily removed.

It will be understood that the reflecting elementlocated in the bottom of the box may be of any suitable sort of looking glass or mirror, the structure not being limited to any special character of such device.

In accordance with the provisions ofthe patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device sliown is only illustrative and that the invention may be carried out by other means.

I claiml. A vanity box cover comprising an outer supporting member having a recess with a pocket opening out of the bottom of said recess, and a cup shaped member inserted in said recess with its open end outward and formed to lit and close the opening into a box.

2. A vanity box cover comprising an outer supporting member with a recess therein with a pocket opening out of' the bottom of said recess, and a radially projecting flange at the mouth of said recess,

and a cup shaped member inserted. in saidl recess with its open end outward and with its edge projecting beyondsaid flange to lit and close the opening into a box.

3. A box cover comprising an outer recessed member having the bottom Wall` of said recess stamped outwardly to form a pocket thereby producing a hole, and a cup shaped member inserted in said recess with its open end outward and its closed end covering said hole said cover being formed to iit and close the opening into a box.

4. A box cover comprising an outer recessed member having the bottom of its recess stamped outwardly to form a pocket open at one end on the outer surface of the cover, said stamped formation producing a hole in the cover, and a cup shaped member inserted in said recess with its open end outward, and its closed end kcovering sai-rl hole said cover being formed t-o tit and close the opening into a box.

5. A box having a glass resting against the inner surface of the bottom thereof, a ring closely iitting the side of the box and secured against said glass to hold it in position, and a cover comprising an outer recessed member having a flange to tit upon the edge of the box and an inner cup shapec member with an edge projecting to fit with in the box and in proximity to said ring.

A vanity box cover 'comprising ar. outer supporting member having a pocket formed therein, and a cup shaped member inserted in said recess with its open end outward, said cup shaped member having a hole extending from said pocket into the cup shaped interior of said cup shaped member for the extraction of a cake therefrom said cover being formed to it and close the open ing into a box. 7. A vanity box comprising an outer supporting member having a recess with a pocket opening out of the bottom ofv said recess and a hole through an edge Wall of said pocket to the outer surface of the cover, and a cup-shaped member inserted in said recess With its open end outward and formed to fit Within the cover and close one side of said pocket.
