10 case and its contents, and enable use of the de-' vice as a simple flash-light, whether the case is open or closed.

Another important object of the invention is the provision of a device of this nature which is 15 of extremely simple and inexpensive construction, and the parts whereof are so arranged as to provide a case of minimum thickness, those which would tend to render the case of undesirable proportions being disposed in a novel manner calgo culat'ed to greatly minimize this tendency.

Other objects include the improvement of various elements of construction of cases of the type indicated, as well as of flash-light constructions and switching means therefor, in manners mak ing for compactness and lnexpensiveness of construction, attractiveness of appearance and ease of use.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, wherein reference is made to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention, and wherein similar reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.

As clearly shown in Figures 1 and. 2, the case It) is preferably of tapering thickness from one end to the other. Both ends may be rounded, and the thicker proportioned to accommodate one or more electric cells as H, which may be slipped into place through an opening closable by a cap, as l4. The portion of the case adjoining the cell compartment is provided with a partition and supporting element l'l formed of a bent sheet metal member who'se configuration is fully shown in Figures 2 and 5. The. substantially horizontal mid-portion of member H, which is spaced a desirable distance below the hinged cover 36, carries the bulb socket 38, while adjoining such partition and occupying the major part of the remainder and thinner end of the case is a cosmetic compartment in the bottom which is a box as l8,

ordinarily utilized for face powder or the like, shown in Figure at 19. The powder may, if desired, be retained beneath a perforated plate as 20, and a separate internal lid, as 22, may be provided for such powder box, hinged to the side of the case as at 23.

A box-like depression, as 25, may also be formed in the middle portion of the lid 22, adapted to contain another cosmetic, such as face rouge or the like, designated 21, while such box portion may be closed by an additional and smaller lid 23 hinged to the lid portion 22,1151 at 29, and provided, if desired, with a bulging or inwardly concaved section as 30 in a central portion thereof,

within which depression may be arranged still' another cosmetic as 32, in cake form. This receptacle is ordinarily devoted to lip rouge or the like.

Suitable latching means as 34-35 may be provided for yieldably retaining the lids 22-23111,

- adjoining surfaces of the case when closed, and

carries on its inner face a mirror or mirroring portion 43, and is also apertured as at ll to expose the flash-light bulb 42, which, as shown, is threaded into the socket 33 in the usual manner through an opening flundesignated) in the supporting portion l1.

Switching means for controllingillumination of the bulb may' consist of a spring metal strip 48 connected to the case as by being riveted to the partition, portion II, in the manner best shown in Figure 3. This element constitutes its own releasing spring as well as a spring for the simple button 50 by which it is actuable. The button is slidable in the side of the case and so arranged that when pressed the strip 48 is pushed into contact with the metal shell 88, to

ground the same and so complete a circuitthrough and illuminate the bulb. 7

It will beseen that the dispositionorv the parts described is such that when the lid 36 is opened the bulb faces and is properly positioned to illuminate the face of a user 01' the case, and so assist in the proper use of its contents, while'when the case is closed the bulb is nevertheless exposed and the button It readily actuable, rendering the device conveniently usable as a simple flash-light.

'A cigarette lighter. the case of which is generally designated 58, may be provided in the smaller end of'the container and its active portion I! may be carried by and utilizable upon removal of the cap 66.

While it will be apparent that the illustrated embodiment, of my inventi n herein disclosed is well calculated to adequate fulfill the objects and advantages primarily stated, it is to be understood that the invention-is susceptible tovariation, modification and change within the spirit and scope of the subjoined claim.

What I claim is:

than the other, a compartment for cosmetics or the like arranged .in a thinner end of the container, electric lighting means carried by the case including a cell arranged in the thicker end of the case, a bulb connectible to the cell and arranged between the cell and the cosmetic compartment, said compartment and the bulb and cell being arranged in generally coplanar relation, a lid defining one of the convergent sides of the cr se and hinged thereto between the cell and bulb, and-a mirror surface carried upon the inside 0! said lid; said lid being apertured to'expose the bulb when-closed.
