Description

T. W. FOSTER CONTAINER FOR TOILET PREPARATIONS Feb. 12l 1924.
Filed May 24. 1922 wenn,
Patented Feb. l2, I y
THEODORE w. POSTER, OPl PROVIDENCE, RHODE IsLANDbAssIGNOR To THEoDoRE wf POSTER a BRO. Co., or PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, A CORPORATION OPMAINE;
s PATENT oFF-ICE- CONTAINER POR TOILET PREPRRATIONS.
Application led May 24, 1922. Serial No. 563,417. i l
To all whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, THEonoRE W. FOSTER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at` Providence, in the countyoftProvidence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Toilet Preparations, ofwhich the following is aspecification.
This inventionrelates to a container or holder for toilet preparations such as rouge, salve and the like, `which may be in stick, bar, pencil or other convenient form, and the primary object of this invention is to provide such a containerv4 with means whereby the.4 contents may be fed forwardly to pro-Z ject fromthe end of the tube into position for ready application. l
l/Vith these and other ob'ects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a view showing my improved container or casing with a cap in position thereon. y
Figure 2 is a central sectional elevation showing the preparation carrier and the advancing mechanism therefor.
Figure 3 is a detailedwiew showing the screw-threaded tube which serves asa means for advancing the carrier, the same being shown as partly broken away to show the thread in its inner wall.i
Figure 4 is a detailed viewof the inner slotted guide tube in which the carrier is mounted.
Figure 5 is a detail of the carrier. Y
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional elevation illustrating a portion of the device Lwith the parts assembled and 4'showing the extension formed on the carrier as projecting through the slot in the slotted tube. to engage the screw threads in the threaded tube.
' With reference to the drawings, 1'0 designates the outer, tubular shell which is preferably made of metal with 'its outer edge turned inwardly at 11 and a short distance c below its outer end the wall of this tube is f in Figure 3 rolled outwardly to form an annular rib 12 to provide a stop for the cover 13.
Within this tube is mounted a screwthreaded, tubular casing 14 which is shown as being formed of thin metal with the helical thread 15 pressed into vthe wallof the stock and this casing lis fitted i snugly within the outershel'llO to be frictionally held therein against rotation.
Within Vthis threaded tube4 is positioned an inner tube 16 vas shown in Figure 4, the upper end of which is slightly enlarged as at 17 to engage the inturned lip l1'1'of the outer casing and the side wallof this inner casing is slotted longitudinally at 18 for the purpose presently described. c
The lower end of this inner 'casing is provided with an annular enlargmentf19.
Within this inner tube 16, I have mounted a carrier member 2O "which is-Olf cupshape designed toreceive the end of-the stick, bar or pencil of toilet preparation' and this cupshaped carrier is mounted within the inner slotted tube 16 and is provided with an integral laterally-extending projection 21 vwhich extends through ,the slot 18 in the slotted .tube into vengagement with the thread in the inner iwall o-fl the threaded tube 16, whereby the engagement of the projection 21 with the screw thread 15 causes the carrier to move either up or down by the 4rotation of this cap relative to the casing .to either advance or retract the contents of the tube which fis seated in the movable carrier and` when the device -is not in use the capl 13 may be' placed over the upperend of the tube whichwill cover the 'contents thereof,
This. 'holder is simple and practical in construction and by its use toilet preparations may be readily carried therein and advanced into position ready for use.
The foregoing description,v 1s
directed solel towards theconstruction illustrated,
but desire it to be 'understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to whichthe device is susceptible, the invention being' defined and limited only by the terms of the 'appended claims. f' I claim: c 1. A holder for toilet preparations com- ,prising a tubular outer shell and a closure member therefor, an intermediate threaded tube non-rotatably 4mounted within said shel1,a tube rotatably mounted with said threaded tube and provided with a longitudinal slot, a preparation carrying socket adjustably mounted in said slotted tube 'and having an' integral projection extending through said slotand engaging the threads in said intermediate tube, and means for rotating said slotted tube relative to said threaded tube whereby said socket' is moved axiall of said shell.
2. holder'I for stick material comprising a tubular outer shell having an inturned outer end, aV lining secured in said shell having an interna-l helical groove therein, a
slotted tube rotatably mounted 'Within said lining with 'an enlargement at one end havmg .a bearing at said` inturned end of said', shell and provided near its other end With` an enlargement, a preparation` carrying socket adJustably mounted in said vslotted tube and having an integral projection V'extending through said slot and engaging said helical groove, a cap having a recess sprung 'over the last said enlargement to frictionally secure said cap to sai-d slotted tube, said `yCap being provided with a shoulder for roture. w
