.Be it known that I, HORACE W. REMING- TON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful improvements in Soap-Containers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.

rlhis invention `relates to soap containers for holding soap in stick form, preferably used for shaving purposes.

Soap containers now on the market are usually sold with the stick of soap contained therein, and as the containers of the better class are comparatively expensive to manufacture the total cost of the soap and Vits container is unnecessarily high as the ordinary containers in practice have been found not adapted for use with more than one stick of soap, due to the fact that when the containers were taken apart to insert new sticks of soap it was found that when reassembled the container parts would loosely lit and tend to separate in feeding the soap as used. This feature was found very objectionable as it prevented the manufacturer from selling a plurality of sticks of soap to be used with one container andthereby increased the cost of the soap to the users.

1t is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable feature and provide a soap container which may be recharged any number of times without the liability of the parts becomingl accidentally separated or loosened.

A further object of the invention is to providaa soap container formed of a plurality of parts in which some of the parts are removably locked together.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved soapl container and its parts and combinations as I set'forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof. Y,

Referring to the drawing the numeral 8 indicates the improved soap container which comprises the body portion 9, .the bottom portion 10 and the top or cover 11. The body portion is of oval form in cross section and is provided with an outer annular drip rib 12 near its upper end and with aninner annular locking recess 13. rlhe upper rib while serving to prevent the moisture from working down to the lower portion ofthe container also serves as a stop which is engaged by the lower edge of the cover 11.

The bottom portion l0 of the container is in the form of an inverted cup with its lower edge flanged outwardly and upwardly to overlap the lower edge of the body portion and form a reinforcing shoulder 14 to be grasped by the user in removing the bottom. portion from the body portion. The bottom portion 10 is also provided with a medial recessed portion 15, a central opening 16 and a curved elongated slot 17 concentric with relation to the central opening 16. 1n forming the curved elongated slot the metal of the inner edge of the slot is cut and the metal of the width of the slot is forced upwardly to partly coverthe velongated opening. r1`he purpose of these openings and the recessed portion will be later described.

A plunger 18 of oval form isslidably positioned within the body portion of the container and is provided with a depending hub having a; threaded opening 19 through which extends a threaded rod 20. This rod has a threaded engagement with the plunger and its lower end portion extends through the opening 16 of the bottom portion andy is connected to a handle 21 which is positioned clockwise, to the right, the plunger andthe stick of soap 20 resting thereon will be ad` vanced upwardly .and the upper endof the soap will be forced out of the upper end of the container. A collar 22 mounted on the rod a slight distance above the bottom portion 10 holds the rod revolubly in position with relation to said bottom portion.

A locking member 23 revolubly mounted on the rod 20 and interposed between the bottom 10 and thecollar 22 is provided with opposite segmental locking portions 23*l which turn into the annular recess- 13 of the body portion and securely lo'ck the bottom to the body portion. The loc-king member 23 is provided with a downwardly inclined handle portion 24 which extends through the vcurved elongated slot 17 of the bottom portion to a position adjacent the side thereof to be easily turned by the user. 1t will be noted that the peripheral edges 23a of the locking member 23 extend in straight lines which coincide with the fiat sides of the body portion. This construction provides for frictionally holdin'g the locking member in locking position, and when in locking position the handle is at the rear end of the slot, that is to say, the end farthest from the direction of rotation of the rod, so that ifthe fingers of the user should accidentally strike the locking member handle in turning the rod handle, the said locking member would not be accidentally swung to open position.

The upper edge portion 8 of the body portion is converged inwardly to reduce the diameter of the opening and forms comparatively a sharp edge which is engaged by the stick of soap 20 positioned within the containerand thus eliminates `to a considerable extent the friction between'the -soap and the y container. This stick of soap is also of oval Y talner so it may be further used. Tn forcing' form in cross section and is of a diameter to closely fit the converged edge and form a close fit so that moisture cannot enter the container between the stick of soap and the engaged edge of the container.

The sticks of soap areprovided with central longitudinally extending openings or recesses 25 into which the threaded rod is inserted when thecontainer is charged. The i stick of soap rests upon the 'plunger and the upper end of the soap projectsthrough the upper end of the container. Now as the soap is used the rod handle is turned from time to time to rotate the threaded rod and lmove the plunger and lthe soapupwardly and the upper end of the soap outof the conthe stick of soap. upwardly the locking member of the container will prevent the bottom' portion of the container from -working outwardly under strain.

In recharging the 'container the locking member is swung to unlocking position and the bottom portion including the threaded In the modilied form shown in F ig. 5 the upper end portion 26 of .the body portion is formed as a separate part and is connected thereto by sliding its lower end portion 26 into the upper end of the bod portion. The said separate part is provided with an annular rib 27 which. enters'the annular recess 28 at the upper end of the body portion and removably' locks the lparts together. The space between the body portion andthe stick of soapbelow the separate part is preferably lined with paper to prevent the soap from contacting with the body portion in the event that the said body portion be formed of metal which would deleteriously affect the soap.

This last mentioned form is provided for recharging the container from the upper end.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved container may be easilyrecharged any number oftimes in a very simple manner.

What I claim as my invention is p 1. A soap container, comprising an open vended body member having a' groove forming a shoulder on its lower inner side portion, a non-rotatable plunger positioned within thebody member, a bottom member removably closing the lower open end of the body member, a rod threaded through the plunger and' revolubly carried by the bottom member for forcing a stick of soap resting on the plunger through the upper open end of the body Vmember, and a movable locking member engageable with the shoulder of the body member to lock the bottom member to the body member against movement when subjected to the reaction of forcing the stick of soap through the upper opening of the body member. A soap container, comprising an open ended body member having a groove forming shoulders on its lower'inner opposite side portions, a non-rotatable plunger positioned within the body member, a recessed bottom member freely removably closing the lower open end of the body member, a rod threaded through the plunger and revolubly carried by the bottom member for forcing a stick of soap resting on the plunger through the upper open end of the body member, said rod eX- tending through the bottom `member and having a handle portion positioned within the recessed portion of the' bottom memer, by the bottom member and engageable with thev shoulders of the body member to lock and a revoluble locking member 'carried'l the bottom member to the body member against movement when subjected' to the reaction of forcing the stick of soap through the upper opening of the body member.

3. A soap container, comprising fa body portion having an upper and a lower open end, a non-rotatable plunger slidably positioned Within the body portion, a recessed and slotted bottom member closing the lower end of the body portion, a member locking the bottom member to the body portion and having a handle portion which projects through the slot and into the recess of said bottom member, a rod threaded through the plimger andvrevolubly carried by the bottom member, and means within the 'recess of the bottom member and connected to the rod for turning said rod.

A soap container, comprising a body portion having an upper and a lower open end, and shouldered portions, a non-rotatable plunger slidably positioned within the body portion, an inverted recessed bottom member extending into the lower open end of the body portion, said bottom member having a central opening and an elongated slot curved concentiically with relation thereto, a rod extending through the central opening and having a threaded engagement with the plunger, a handle portion mounted on the lower end of the rod and positioned within the recess of the bottom member, and a locking member mounted on the bottom member and surrounding the rod and having portions which engage the shoulders of the body -portion and a lhandle portion which projects through the elongated slot.

A soap container, comprising a body portion having an upper and a lower open end and shouldered portions, a non-rotatable plunger slidably positioned within the body portion, an inverted recessed bottom member extending into the lower openend of the body portion, said bottom member having a central opening and an elongated slot curved concentrically with relation thereto, a rod extending through the central opening and having a threaded engagement with the plunger, a handle portion mounted on the lower end of the rod and positioned within the recess of the bottom member, a collar mounted on the -rod above the bottom portion, and a locking member revolubly surrounding and interposed between the collar and the bottom member and having portions which engage the shoulders of the body portion and also lhaving a handle portion which projects through the elongated slot.

A soap container comprising a body portion of oval form in cross section and having an upper and a lower open end, and a locking recess, a non-rotatable oval shaped plunger slidably positioned within the body portion, an inverted recessed bottom member closing the lower open end and having a central opening and an elongated slot curved concentrically with relation thereto, a rod threaded through the plunger and extending revolubly through the central opening of the bottom member and having a handle -mounted on its lower end which is within the b ottom member recess, a collar mounted on the rod above the bottom member, and a member revolubly mounted on the rod between the collar and the bottom member and having edge portions which enter the locking recess of the body member and also having a handle portion which eX- tends through the elongated slot of the bottom member.

7. A soap container, comprising a body portion of oval form in cross section and having upper and lower open ends and a locking recess in the opposite sides of the body port-ion, a non-rotatable oval shaped plunger slidably positioned within the body portion, an inverted recessed bottom member removably closing the lower open end and having a central opening and an elongated slot curved concentrically with relation there-to, a rod extending through the central opening of the bottom member and having a threaded engagement .with the plunger, the portion of the rod within the recess of the bottom member provided with a handle, a collar mounted on the rod above the bottom member, and a locking member journaled on the rod and interposed between the collar and the bottom portion and having a handle portion which projects through the elongated slot, said locking member having locking edges which extend ln testimony whereof, l aiix my signature.
