(Cl. 20G- 56) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers, land has particular relation to lipstick containers, although it is to be understood that the device of the invention may 5 be used for the holding of cosmetics other than lipsticks and that the latter word is not herein used in avlimiting sense.

An object of the invention is'to provide an improved construction for retaining the lparts in l' assembled relation.

Another object of the invention is to provide a "lipstick container including an operating member for causing the lipstick or other cosmetic to be projected from the container for use and rel tracted into the container after use and which operating member may be applied in any -desired color or design to otherwise substantially com-'f` pletely fabricated and assembled containers.`

A further object is to provide a lipstick con- W tainer including an operating member in the form oi a base for 'the container and which may be applied in the desired color or design to other- Wise substantially completely fabricated and assembled containers.

Referring in detail to the drawing the container lincludes an outer shell I0, an intermediate shell I I and an inner shell I2. Each of the shells is in 10 the form of a drawn metal cylinder, being prei'- erably of brass or the like. -Ir'iner shell I2 includes a bottom wall I3 providing a shoulder Ia, and this'wallis provided with slots or openingsv I4, and

in its side wall such shell is provided with an 15 inclined or spiral slot i5 extending for a good portion of the length oi' the shell.-

The intermediate shell I I has the main or central portion ot its bottom wall cut away but at its lower end includes a shoulder or inturned portion It. In its side wall shell II is provided with an inclined or spiral slot Il, and it is .noted that slot I1 inclines in the direction opposite to the direction of incline of slot I5 o! shell I2. In the complete container the shell I2 is within the shell 25 II, and while turnable therein about .a longitudinal axis is prevented from moving downwardly therethrough due to an overlapping of the bottom wall I3 by the inturned portion I6 of shell II. The lshell I I-maybe drawn from a.blank cut from sheet metal and with its lower end closed, and then the lower closed end cut or punched out in a suitabledie to produce the opening Ita and leave the inturned iiange I8. Thereafter on receipt of orders for containers operating members of the desired color and configuration or design desired by the customer maybe attached to the extension of the containers and the latter are therefore quicklyavallable in the desired style and color combination.' e

It is noted that the operating member Il projects radially beyond the edge of opening lla in the inwardly extending flange i of shell ii and therefore when the member is in place it serves to prevent movement of the inner shell outwardly through the upper end of the intermediate shell, and thus since the inturned portion or shoulder Il of the latter shell prevents downward movement of the inner shell relative to the intermediate l-shell, the'shells are held against relative longitudinal movement.' In a lipstick container, an inner cylindrical shell, a holder in said shell, a cylindrical shell about said inner shell and at its lower end having an inturned portion slightly overlying the lower end o! the the inner shell whereby the shells are held against relative longitudinal movement in one direction, an operating member attached to l shell about the inner shell through the lower end of the other shell and projecting radially beyond thev inner shell so'as to cooperate with the second shell to prevent relative longitudinal movement of the shells in the other direction and operable to turn the inner shell in the other shell, and means whereby such turning results in movement oi' sa`id holder longitudinally with respect to the inner shell.

Ina lipstick container, an inner cylindrical shell, a holder in said shell, an outer cylindrical said inner shell, an intermediate cylindricai shell between said inner and outer shells. saidintermediate shell at its lower end including an inturned portion slightly overlying the lower end of the inner shell lwhereby saidshells are held against relative longitudinal movement in one direction, said outer shell having a portion slightly overlying the outer end oi' the intermediate shell and cooperating therewith to limit movement of the `outer shell longitudinally over the intermediate shell, an operating'member attached to the inner shell through the lowier end of the intermediate shell and operable to turn the inner shell in the intermediate shell, means-whereby such turning'results in movement of said holder longitudinally of the inner shell, a tubular slip cover over the outer shell and normally closing the outer end of the inner shell, and said operating member projecting radially beyond the inner ends of said shells and preventing relative longitudinal movement o i' the inner and intermediate shells in the direction opposite the rst mentioned direction and serving as an abutment for the inner end of said slip cover.

In a lipstick container, an inner cylindrical shell, a holder in said shell, av cylindrical shell about said inner shell and `within which the latter is turnable, said second shell having an opening in its lower end oi.' less diameter than the shell forming an inturned shoulder, an integral tubular extension on said innerlshell of less diameter than `thensheli providing a shoulder and said extension projecting through the opening'in the lower end oi the othershell so that the shoulders engage to hold the shells against relative longitudinal movement in one direction, an operating member on said extension and preventing relative longitudinal movement of the shells in the other direction, said member being operable through said extension to turn the inner shell in the other shell, and means whereby `such turning results in movement oi' said holder longitudinally of the inner shell. y
