The numeral ll refers generally to a dispensing container comprising anoutside tubular casing and an inside shell I! rotatabiy mounted therewitbin. Disposed between the casing i I and the shell l2 and adapted to be retained and carrled by the-outside casing Ii is a sleeve member ll having a helical groove or slot ll extending from end to end thereof.
The base or lower end of the inside shell I! is provided with an integral head I! of a diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the casing Ii. The head I! is preferably provided with a knurled surface as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to assist in manipulating the same; but it is to be understood that the head it might be made as well of polygonal or any other shape for this purpose within the scope of the invention. Mounted to slide within the inside shell I: is a cosmetic stick carrier in the form of a cup [1 in whichis held a cosmetic stick indicated by the numeral II. The inside shell 12 is formed with a flongi-tudinal slot ll extending substantially the entire length of the shell and within which is adapted to slidably engage the head 2| of a pin ll secured to thecup 'il as best shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The pin 2| customarily projects a substantial distance within the cup to be embedded within the material of the cosmetic stick as a better means for holding the stick ll within 'thecup ll. Now, in accordance with thisinvention there is provided a very practical and novelmeans whereby the inside shell I2 and complementary operating head i5 are interlocked against rotation within the outside casing ll upon the mere assembling of the cap 23 upon the container l0, thus preventing accidental longitudinal movement of the stick carrying cup H. To this end there is provided in the outside casing ll, adjacent its lower end, a cutout longitudinal slot 24 angularly positioned so as to permit said slot to be disposed in substantial coincidence with the angular inclination of the helical groove l4 ofthe sleeve member l3 there underneath. A
tongue or lug member generally indicated by the numeral 25 is provided being preferably formed out of a part of the metal stock that'was pierced out to create the slot 24 and being integrally connected to the shell II at the upper short edge of said slot. 24. The tongue is proportioned to extend substantially the entire length 'of the slot 24 and in spaced relation to the longitudinal adjacent edges thereof.
When the parts are assembled in proper relationship the slot 25 as mentioned above must be positioned to coincide with the helical groove ll of the sleeve member l3 so as to bring the axis of the tongue 25 into substantially parallel alinement with the axis of said helical groove ll.
In order to give the tongue 25 a resilient cast the longer proximal end 26 of said tongue 25 is biased outwardly from the normal cylindrical surface of the shell II and the shorter distal end 21 thereof is given a reverse or inward bend thus producing an intermediate humped portion 28 that will serve in the manner of a cam as will be later described. The humped portion 28 is capacitated to spring and project outwardly beyond the circumferential plane of the outside casing II when the cap is removed from the container. When in this position the distal inturned locking end 21 of the tongue is removed from the path of the helical groove l4 permitting the head. 20 of the pin 2| to pass unobstructed upwardly therethrough coincident with the manipulation of the operating head l5.
When the cap 23 is being assembled into-position the tongue 26 with its humped portion 28 will be forced inwardly by reason of the fact that the advancing edge of the cap easilyv cams over the upper inclined edge of the proximal end of the tongue 26 and disposes the locking end 21 fully within the helical groove M. It should. be here understood that before the cap 23 is assembled in place the carrier cup should be retracted to its innermost position with the head 20 of the pin 2| located at the lowermost end of the vertical slot i9. g
Thus, it will be apparent that any attempt either accidentally or willfully to manipulate the head l5 when the cap 23 is in assembled position will cause the head 20 of the pin 2| to abut against the locking end 21 of the tongue 26 and cause the entire container unit I0 to rotate within the cap member 23, and in no way disturb the retracted position of the carrier cup IT.
The modified form shown in Fig. 5 is quite similar to the preferred form except that the vertical projections or ribs 30, the upper end of which may serve as a rest or support for the sleeve member l3. Adjacent the lower end of the tubular casing II is a locking tongue member 3| sprung out and constructed generally in like manner to the tongue 25 of the first form except for the fact that it is disposed in a vertical position. One advantageous feature of this modified construction is that it is not necessary to aline and centralize the tongue with the helical l0 groove II in the assembly operation.
When the cap 23 is assembled into place the tongue 3| will be sprunginwardly carrying the lower end thereof into the lateral rotating path of the ribs 30 so that the whole unit will be car- I ried about within the cover 23 with no danger of elevating the carrier cup even if the head end l5 should he accidentally twisted. It is also within the purview of this invention to provide slots or piercings in the inside shell I! in place of the ribs-in which the tongue 3| can-equally well cooperate to accomplish the same locking function.
Before concluding this specification it is here pointed out that in constructing the preferred form of this locking feature noauxiliary-parts have to be added to the device to effect the desired results but a. stock lipstick is taken and by merely forming a, tongue member out of one of the component shells of the container a very cheap and satisfactory locking device is produced. While only two forms of this invention have been shown and described, it will be understood that other changes and variations might be made in the specific constructions shown and described without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a holder of the character disclosed, an outer shell casing, a sleeve means attached in said casing having a spiral guideway, an inner shell having a longitudinal slot rotatable within said sleeve, a carrier cup in said inner shell having a protruding member projecting through said slot into said guideway and adapted to be axially advanced and retracted upon the rotation of said inner shell relative to said sleeve, a closure cap for telescoping over substantially the entire length of said casing, and a tongue element carriedby said casing in alinement with said spiral guideway, said tongue element adapted to be sprung inwardly into said guideway upon the assembly of said cap.
2. In :a holder of the character disclosed, an outer shell casing, a sleeve means attached in said casing having a spiral guideway, an inner shell having a longitudinal slot rotatable within 35 scoping over'substantially the entire length of be sprung inwardly into said guideway upon the assembly of said cap.

In a holder of the character disclosed, a tubular casing, a sleeve means having a helical guideway carried within the confines of said casing, a tubular interior shell having a longitudinal slot rotatable in said sleeve and having an exposed operating knob, a carrier member having a protruding element for engagement in said guideway through said slot and adapted to be actuated by the manipulation of said operating knob, a closure cap for telescoping over said casing, and a means formed out of the normal cylindrical surface of said casing and adapted to be sprung inwardly into the path of said guideway coincident with the assembly of said cap to prevent the elevating of said protruding element in said guideway.
4. In a holder of the character disclosed, a
tubular casing, a sleeve means having a helical guideway carried by said casing, a slotted tubular interior shell rotatable in said sleeve and having an, exposed operating knob, a carrier member having a' protruding element for engagement in said guideway through the slot of the shell and adapted to be actuated by the manipulation of said operating knob, a lug member formed in the I side wall of said casing and designed to be normally sprung out of the cylindrical surface of said casing and disposed in substantial alinement with the inclination of said guideway adjacent the lower end thereof, and a closure cap for telesaid casing and when assembled thereon capacitated to spring the lug inwardly into the guideway.
5. In a holder of the character disclosed, a tubular casing, a sleeve means having a helical guideway carried within said casing, an inner shell having a longitudinal slot rotatable within said sleeve, said shell formed at one end with an exposed operating knob, a carrier member havin P a protruding element for engagement in-said guideway through said slot and adapted to be actuated by the manipulationof said operating knob, a resilient lug member struck out of the side wall of said casing and disposed in substantially parallel 'alinement with said guide, said lug member having its attaching end bent slightly out of the outer surface of said casing wall and its free end formed with a reverse bend back toward said wall thus presenting an intermediate humped portion, and a closure cap having a slidable fit upon said casing and adapted when assembled over said casing to cam over the upper inclined edge of said lug consequently forcing the free end of said lug into said guideway.
6. In a holder according to claim wherein said lug is further defined by having its edges spaced from the adjacent edges of the casing for freedom of movement.

In a holder of the character disclosed, a tubular casing, a sleeve means having a helical guideway carried in said casing, an inner shell having a longitudinal slot rotatable within said sleeve, said shell formed at one end with an exposed operating knob, a carrier member having a protruding element for engagement in said guideway through said slot and adapted to be actuated by the manipulation oi said operating knob, said casing having a slot pierced through its wall adjacent the lower end thereof, said slot being angularly disposed to assume the same angular direction of said guideway when disposed thereover, a lug member carried by said casing and positioned in the area of said slot, said member being bent to present a cam-like intermediate portion beyond the cylindrical outer surface of said casing, and a closure member for telescopically covering said casing and when assembled capacitated to spring said lug member inwardly and the cam-like portion being so proportioned as to cause the free end of said lug to be disposed in said guideway.
8. In a holder of the character disclosed, an outer cylindrical casing, an inner shell rotatable in said casing, a carrier member, cooperative means in said casing for advancing and retracting said member coincident with the rotation of said shell relative to said casing, a closure cap for telescoping over said casing, and a locking element attached to said casing and normally sprung out of the cylindrical surface of said casing, said element adapted to be sprung inwardly upon the assembly of said cap to interlock with one of the rotative members inside of said casing.
9. In a holder of the character disclosed, an outer tubular casing, an inner shell rotatable in said casing, a carrier member, relative rotative means in said casing for actuating said member, a closure cap for telescoping over said casing, and a means on said casing sprung out of the normal cylindrical surface thereof and adapted to be forced inwardly into interlocking engagement with one of the relative rotative means in said casing upon the assembly of said cap.
10. In a holder of the character disclosed, an outer tubular casing, an inner shell rotatable in said casing, a carrier, member, cooperative means in said casing for actuating said member coincident with the rotation of said shell relative to said casing, a closure cap for telescoping over said casing, said shell having a series of interruptions provided in its cylindrical surface, and a lug member on said casing adapted to be sprimg into the lateral travelling plane of said interruptions by the assembly of said cap.
11. In a holder of the character disclosed, an outer tubular casing, an inner shell rotatable in said casing, a carrier member, cooperative means in said casing for actuating said member coincident with the rotation of said shell relative to said casing, a closure cap for telescoping over said casing, said shell having a series of equally spaced projections formed at the lower end thereof, and 9. lug member on said casing adapted to be sprung inwardly between said projections upon the assembly of said cap.
