Description

Dec. 7 1926.
EQA. R. LADE' MATCH BOX Filed April 7, 1926- EAZZLQdQ lNVENTOR BY 16% o ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 7, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE. I
ERNEST A. B. LAQE, OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA.
MATCH BOX.
Application filed. April 7,
The object is the provision of a means whereby an ordinary match box of the type in which matches are placed may be easily transformed or converted into a magazine feed match box from which the matches may be singly removed when r quired for use.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a match box in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the same match box converted into a magazine feed matchbox.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the device as illustrated in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view to illustrate the substantially T-shaped element formed with the inner edge on the side members of that portion of the box that provides the trough.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular slidable cover for the match box or receptacle 2. r
The back of both the cover and the box have openings therethrough, but these openings only register when the cover is slid outwardly over the box and when in such registration these openings 3 are designed to receive therethrough headed elements i that are partly driven in a suitable support and whereby the device when in magazine shape may be fixedly sustained in an upright position.
The cover 1 and the box 2 are constructed of the usual card-board and the ends of the box 2 may be in the nature of the usual flaps. However, in the present instance, the open face of the box, at one end thereof, is formed with a bendable flap 5 provided with side members or ears 6 that are adapted to contact with the sides proper of the box 2 when the box is in closed position but to move outwardly therefrom when the slidable cover is partly moved over the box. WVhen in this position the members 5 and 6 provide the bottom of the box witha trough from which the matches in 1926.' Serial No. 100,412.
the box may be singly withdrawn. f
The side flaps 6 of the trough are integrally formed with substantially T-shaped extensions. The central members 7 of these T-shaped elements are. designed to be re ceived in arcuate grooves 8 that are formed by slitting the sides of the box 2, while the longitudinal elements 9 of the said T-shaped portions are also passed through the grooves and contact with but arranged beyond the opposite edges of the arched webs 10 that form the inner walls of the groove 8 and that are. provided by bending the slit ted portions of the box inwardly. This @011", struction is clearly disclosed in Figures 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings. The T-shaped members or heads 7 and 9 both guide and limit the swinging of the trough in its closed and in its opened positions. I My improvement is of an extremely simple nature which may be cheaply constructed and the advantages thereof will, it is believech be perfectly apparent when the foregoing description has been carefully read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
I am aware that magazine m atch boxes in which troughs are provided at the lower end of the box proper have been heretofore constructed, and, therefore I make no broad claim to such a device, but what do claim is:
A match box, including a box proper and a cover which is slidable over the box, said box having one of its ends formed with a flap that is provided with side wings to test against the sides of the box proper, said wings having T-sha ed extensions, the sides of the box having spaced arcuate sl ts, the material provided therebetween being bent inwardly to form webs, and the central portion of the T-shaped heads designed to be received in the openings provided by the webs and the lateral ends of the said T- shaped members adapted to contact with the outer faces of the webs and with the inner faces of the sides of the box.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature,
ERNEST A. R. LADE.
