Boxes formed from special blanks; fit'tings, internal; contents, facilitating access to.-A carton for cigarettes &c. comprises two U-shaped block-ended pockets 1 each formed to hold a single row of cigarettes with the axes thereof disposed parallel to the open end of the pocket and a flap 2 hingedly connecting the pockets so as to permit them to be opened out into line with the open ends 3 of the pockets directed towards one another and to extend automatically across such ends to form the sole closure therefor when one pocket is :folded upon the other; in order to render the cigarettes easy of access each pocket has a slot 4 extending at right angles to the axes of the cigarettes and located in that broad side 5 of the pocket which bears against the other pocket when the carton is closed. As shown the edges of the slots 4 are scalloped so that each scallop 18 partly encircles a cigarette with its free end depressed into the space between adjacent cigarettes so as to retain the cigarettes in position; one or both edges of each slot may be scalloped or portions of the pocket on either side of the slot 4 may be slit to form tongues which are depressed to lie in the space between adjacent cigarettes. The depth of the sides of each pocket may be made less than the diameter of a cigarette so that the sides grip lightly the ends of the cigarettes and prevent unintentional displacement thereof. The carton may be formed from a single blank or from a pair of blanks, and the material cut away to form the slot may be left attached to the base thereof and the tag thus formed folded around the block end of the pocket to extend along the plain side thereof; the cigarettes lie on' the tag and after all the cigarettes except one have been taken the last one may be easily removed by pulling the tag in the direction of the open end of the pocket; the end of the tag may be bent upwards to extend between the third and fourth cigarette in the pocket.
