JOHN WESTON, OF SULPHUR SPRINGS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO A. FRY & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TUG-BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,534, dated February 9, 1875; application filed January 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, JOHN WESTON, of Sulphur Springs, in the county of Crawford and Stateof Ohio, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Tug-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Myinvention. relates to harness-buckles and fastenings, more particularly such as are used in fastening the traces to the harness; and consists in certain modifications and improvements in the construction of the same, as hereinafter shown and described.
' In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, Figure l is a plan View of my invention applied to a trace. Fig. 2 is aside view of same. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line a: m in Fig. 1.
s The invention partakes of the nature of a buckle and of a clasp, the construction thereof being in two parts, the frame or plate designated A in the drawing referred to, and the swinging loop or bale indicated by B. O designates the trace or tug, having the holes 0 to admit the tongue; and D, the strap, to which the trace is fastened by means of my device, and which holds both the frame A and loop B, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. Frame A is provided with the loop d e f, underneath which the trace passes. From the under side of the cross-piece f the tongue 9 projects downward, the said tongue being made solid with frame A, and the holes 0 in the trace being made to admit the tongue. The loop B enlarges as it extends from its bearing in strap D, so as to inclose the upper part, f, of the frame A, the Wide end of the loop forming a plate, h, the inner edge of which, when closed, rests against the upright parts 0, and the latter may be slightly notched for the purpose. The plate h and frame A have the oblong apertures i and 70 formed therein, for the attachment or passage of straps.
To strengthen and render the parts firm in position, a metallic plate, m, forming a brace, is inserted in the strap D, said plate being entirely covered, and extending from the bearing of the frame to that of the swingingloop.
The device is represented as closed in the drawing; but the trace is readily detached by opening the parts, as indicated in Fig. 2.
Having described my invention, I claim A buckle consisting of the pivoted frame A, having the loop at cf and tongue g, in combination with the pivoted loop B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN WESTON. Witnesses:
W. S. BACON,
JOHN B. SQUIER.
