UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
PALMER STAFFORD, ()F GREEN RIVER, ILLINOIS.
WAGON-BOX FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,801, dated May 15, 1883.
Application filed March 2, 18%3. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PALMER STAFFORD, of Green River, in the county of Henry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lumber-Wagon-Box' Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a rear view ofmy improved wagon-box fastener. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for securing the box or body of awagon to the bolster, whereby rattling and wear of the parts are prevented; and the invention consists of a strap having its ends booked, the upper hook being adapted to pass around the upper edge of one of the sides of the Wagon-box, and its lower hook provided with a hole for the passage ot'a headed bolt having a threaded lower end, which passes throughan opening in the body of a second strap-hook adapted to clasp one end of the bolster, the bolt being provided with a nut, whereby the strap'hooks can be clamped together, and the body or-box and bolster be securely fastened together, and all noise and rattling and wear of the box and bolster prevented, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, a represents a strap, provided with a hook, b, at its upper end, adapted to pass around and clamp the up per edge of one side, k, of the wagon box I. The opposite end of the strap (tv is provided with a book, 0, bent in an opposite direction to the hook b, and provided with a hole, d, through which is passed a headed bolt, 71, threaded at its lower end, and provided with aela-mping-nnt,t. mrepresentsahookadapted to pass partly around and under one end of the bolster n when in position. The body of the hook m is provided with an opening, 0, through which the bolt h is passed, and the nut t' is then put on the bolt.
,In practice the hook b of the strap a is made to engage with the upper edge of one of the sides of the wagon box over the bolster, the hook 'm'is passed around and under the end or" the bolster and the nut ttightened, causing the hook on to be raised, and the wagon-bed and bolster to be securely clamped together, thus preventing noise and wear ot'the parts.
Having thus described my invention, what. [claim as new is- The combination, with a wagon box and bolster, of the hooked strap a, hook at, headed bolt [6, and clamping-nut t, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
. PALMER STAFFORD.
