Description

(No Model.)
J DION END GATE FASTENING.
No. 430,798. Patented June 24, 1890.
I'll STATES PATENT O F CE.
' EN D-GATE FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,798, dated June 24, 1890.
Application filed August 30, 1889.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JERRY DION, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of North Bend, in the county of Dodge and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in End-Gate Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in end-gate fasteners for wagons; and it comprises the detail construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a portion of a wagonbody with my invention applied to the endgate and sides thereof. Fig. 2 is a detached plan view. Fig.3 is a side elevation.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a wagon-body, and a the flexible end-gate, which is preferablycomposed of long and short sections a 0, hinged together. lo short section a is connected one end of aboard 1-3, composed-of two parts 1) b, the latter part I) being connected to section a.
C designates a hook having two parcllel arms (I, pivotally secured at their free ends to a lever D, which. is fulcrumed between two lugs d of a plate E, attached to part b of board 13. To the other part b of said board is connected a plate E, with which is formed a socket or loop 6, designed to receive the end of hook O. I
In practice, by moving lever D toward the left hook G will be brought in alignment with socket e, and by then reversing said lever Serial No. 322,4:96. (N0 model.)
said book will engage said socket and be firmly bound by forcing the lever the full extent of its movement. In this manner a secure fastening is secured for the end-gate, and the same will be firmly held without danger of accidental disengagement.
It is obvious that my invention is applicable for holding the top box of a wagon connected to the lower stationary body portion. Such use or application of my invention is shown in Fig. 1, where the plates E E are connected direct to the sides of the wagon.
I claim as my invention-- 1 In an end-gate fastener, the plate having an outer socket or loop formed near one end thereof, a hook moving on a line with and designed to engage said socket or loop, and a lever connected to said hook for operating the same, substantially as set forth.
2. In an end-gatefastener, theplate having a socket or loop formed near one end thereof, a hook moving on a line with and designed to engage said socket or loop, and having parallel arms, and the lever to which said arms are pivotally connected, substantially as set forth.
3. In an end-gate fastener, the combination of the plate having a socket or loop formed near one end thereof, the plate having lugs, the lever fulcrumed at one end between said lugs, the hook moving on a line withand designed to engage said socket or loop, and the parallel arms connected to said loop and to the lever, substantially as set forth.
