Description

cqrb LAuER,
v Handles for Childrens Carriages. N0,]58,288, Pate'n ted 020.29,]874.
UNITED STATEs PATENT QFFIGE.
CHARLES F. LAUER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLES FOR CHILDRE NS CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,288, dated Decembcr 29, 1874; application filed November 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES F. LAUER, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Handle for Childrens Oarriages, of which the following is a specification:
, My invention consists of a metal handle for childrens carriages, having a concave T- shaped piece for attaching it to the wood frame by which the carriage is propelled, so contrived that it applies to the cross-piece and one of the shafts at. their junction, and also serves to re-enforcc and strengthen them, besides attaching the handle, thus uniting two pieces in one, and saving labor and material in the making and labor in attaching. v
Figure l is a side elevation of my improved handle and part of the frame, and Fig. 2 is a plan View of Fig. 1, inverted.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the handle, andB O the grooved T- shaped attaching-piece, which are cast to gether in one piece. I) is the cross-piece, and E the shaft of the wood frame, to which the handle is attached. These pieces are, in practice, always made round, which is the most desirable form, but it does not admit of connecting them together so firmly as if madesquare; hence there is greater necessity of strongly re-enforcing them. This could, of course, be done by a T-piece independent of the handle; but this and the application of the handle would necessitate the making and attaching of two independent pieces, whereas by making them together in one piece the whole can be made and applied at about the same cost as the independent handle alone, for it would require a special attaching-piece, and, besides, its attaching piece could not, in that case, be placed Where I place it, which is the most desirable position for it.
I am aware that one or more secondary handies have been combined with the ordinary bar or handle of a childs carriage, and that such handles have been secured in place by metallic ferrules.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The handle A for childrens carriages, having an attachingpiece, B O, to re-enforce the joint of the shaft E, and cross-piece D, all combined substantially as specified.
CHAS. F. LAUER.
