REUBEN M. REYNOLDS, OF EAST SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 108,053,, dated October 4, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEEL BARROWS.
n; Schedule referred to m these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
Tozall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN M; REYNOLDS, of East Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in \Vheelbarrows and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ot' the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing makinga part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a side view of my invention.
Figure-'2 is a top view of the same. My invention has relation to wheelbarrows, and consists in novel means of construction, whereby of six pieces of bent timber only'I form the body-rest,
handles, legs, and jouriialsfo'r the wheel.
A of the drawing represents the body of my wheelbarrow, resting uponthe bent side pieces B. and to which it is securely attached.
0 represents a bent arm, arranged as shown, its extreme upper curve approaching very nearlythe extreme lower curve of the sidepiece B. The front'end of this arm 0 forms a journal for a gudgeon of the wheel, while'its rear end, bent downward, as shown, serves as a leg for the barrow.
D represents a handle, bent, as shown, and having its lower end mortised or otherwise secured firmly in the arm G at a point a little above where it serves for a. carriage-leg.
A duplicate of the side piece, arm, and handle above described is arranged on the opposite side of the barrow.
By the use of the six bent pieces of timber above described, together with the body and the wheel marked H, the manufacturer is enabled to furnish a strong,
symmetrical, and novel wheelbarrow at rates greatly reduced from those of barrows constructed in the usual form.
What I claiin as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- V The mode of construction herein described, by which the side pieces B, arms 0, and handles D, are made to-serve as body-rest, wheel-journal, legs, and handles of a wheelbarrow. In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my'name in the presence of two wit:
n'esses.
