CAGWIN, OF CARSON CITY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOOR-CLANIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,203, dated September 19,1871.
Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved floor-clamp. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference mdicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new apparatus forclamping floor-boards against one another previous to their being nailed to the beams; and consists in a new combination of levers and jaws with a jointed supporting-frame.
A in the drawing represents the yoke-shaped frame of theiloor-clamp. It is jointed at a, so as to form two legs, b and c. The lower ends of said legs carry cross-pieces or supports d e, respectively. To the cross-piece d of the leg b are pivoted two levers, B and C, which form jaws ff at their lower ends. Their upper ends are at different points united with a lever, D, as shown in Fig. 2. To an arm, g, projecting from the inner edge of the leg b, is pivoted one end of a lever, E. The said lever is, bya link, h, also Vconnected with the leg C of the frame.
The apparatus is usedby clamping the jaws f f against the sides of a beam, as in Fig. 2, .and then swinging the lever E so as to carry the crosspiece e against the board to be clamped. The lever E can then be locked by a pawl, F, which is pivoted ^to the leg b, and lits into notches cut into the upper edge ofthe lever, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The oor-clamp,consisting of the jointed frame A, jaw-levers B C, and operating-levers D and E, all combined substantially as herein shown and described.
THOMAS S. URIE. Witnesses:
