Description
FREDERICK STAMLER, OE HAMBURG, NEW YORK.
Letten Paten.: N 99,967, dated February 15, 1870.
IIWPRO'VEMIENT IN' TREADLS FOR SEWING-MACHINES,
The Schedule referred to' in these Letters Patentv and makig part of the sama.
I, FREDERICK STAMLER, of Hamburg, in the county of Erie, and State ot' New York, have invented certain Improvements in the Treadles for Sewing and other Iilaehinesf7 ot' which the following is a speciiication. The nature of my invention consists in providing the treadle for sewing-nmchines or other light machinery with a step or fout-board, so arranged that the foot in working the tl'eadle may not be obliged t0 o'sf cllate, but to rise up and more down in a near perpendicular line. This I accomplish by providing an axis for the step or foot separately from `thatof the main axis.
I refer to the drawing, which illustrates the nature of' my inventionl more fully, and whieh'makes part ofthis speciiioation.
Figure l represents a sewing-machine frame and table provided with a treadle,I improved as aforesaid, in a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a cnt through the two axes and footboard ofthe treadle.
Letter A is the main shaft or axis of treadle.
To the same is `secured an adjustable lever, B, Whith has connection with the fly-wheel 0, by means ot' cor.- nectiug-rod 1).l Said leve-1' is adjustable for the purpose-of so accommodating the toot-board to the foot as to give it the desired travel.
the shaitA, in which it is adjustable, as plainly seen.
in iig. 2.
Said frame is provided with two locks, E', in order to serve as bearings fdr the axis or pivots ot' foot- It will be observed that if the foot is set on the foot. board F and the treadle is set in motion, the t'oot .is not compelled to oscillate with the treadle, but will move straight -up and down, hence the working of this treadle is done with more ease.
Having thus i'ully described my invention,
That I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Providing,r a treadle with a toot-board or toot-boards, arranged so as to have an independent axis from that of the main shaft A, substantially as shown and set forth.
Also, the combination of' main shaft A, adjustable 'lever B, adjustable frame E, and hinged foot-board I", substantially as'speciiied.
FREDERICK STAMLER.
