IMPROVEMENT IN TABLE-FANS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JOSEPH C. MCEWEN, of Micanopy,in'r the county of Alachua. and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Table-Fan; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others vskilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing' forming part of this specification, in which- 'lhe figure is a detail view of a table to which my improved fan has been attached, part heilig broken away to show the construction.
My invention has for its object to furnish an iinproved fan or fly-brush for keeping the iies from the table, and which shall be simple in construction, effective in operation, and easily-operated; and
i I t consists in the construction andcombination of the various part-s of the device, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the frame-work, and B is the top of the table, about` the construction of which parts there. is nothing new.
C is the fan or brush, which is attached, by means of a set-screw, to the upper en d 0f the vertical shaft D, which passes down through the top B of the table, and the lower end of which revolves in a socket in the cross-bars of the lower part of the frame-work A of the table.
To the lower part ot the shaft D is attached a cord',
E, which makes one or more turns around said shaft.-
One end of the cord E is attached to the lower end of the spring l?, the upper end of which is attached to the frame A of the table.
The cord E passes over a guide-pulley, G, piroted to the frame A of the table, and its other 4end is attached to the treadle H.
By this construction, by bearing 4down upon the treadle H the fan or brush will be revolved in one direction, and when the treadle His released the said tan -or brush will be revolved in the other direction oy the spring F.
