BERGER-.AARON MANUFACTURING- COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA,
PENNSYL- VANIA, A CGTJPORATION QE PENNSYLVANIA,
GARTER-DISPLAY MEANS.
Application led December 19, 1925.
To zZ/Z whom t may concern:
Be it lrnown that I, HENRY F. GoLDsMITrI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garter-Display Means, o'f which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the art of displaying garters and similar articles of manufacture. The objects are: to provide supporting means for the garters, or pairs of garu ters, that will permitthem to be displayed,
one above another, in such manner that each pair of garters will stand out clearly from the other pairs; and to provide garter supporting means to which the garters may be readily applied and from which they may be readily removed. The invention comprises a primary or direct support for each garter or pair of garters and with which the garters are in stationary relationship, and a secondary support for a number of pairs of such directly supported garters, the secondary support comprising an upright standard with which the garters and their primary supports are adapted to slidably engage: the structures and relative arrangements and dimensions of the primary and secondary supports being such as to permit the garters to be displayed as above speciiied and to allow the garters to be slidably applied to and removed from the secondary support with a substantial elimination of friction between the garters and such secondary support.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. l is a front view of the complete dis play device withthe garters applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 ot Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, on an enlarged scale, through the display device and one of the garters.
Fig. 4 is a front view of the standard that comprises one ot the elements ot the display device.
Fig. is a sider view of one of thiefeet that are'adapted to engage the standard and support it in an upright position.
Serial No. 76,387.
The standard a, which is composed preter-A ably of a flat strip of cardboard, is supported in an upright position by any convenient means. I prefer to provide the standard with a widened base portion o, which is slotted from its bottom edge upward and is engaged by two similarly slotted rearwardly extending feet c, the base and feet thereby supporting the standard. The standard may, however, be suspended from a hook adapted to engage the hole (Z, and be unsupported at the bot-tom.
Each garter fc, or each pair of garters, is adapted to be supported on a spreader e, which is composed preferably of a flat strip of cardboard e. The strip should be slightly longer than halt the garters normal circumference (that is, its circumference when not under tension). Thereby, the garter, when slipped on the spreader, will be under a slight tension, thus insuring against its accidentally slipping ott.
The width of the standard a should be substantially less than the length of a spreader c. The length of the 'standard a should be multiple times the width of a spreader e.
To display a number of `pairs of garters, the same are applied tov a corresponding number of spreaders, and the spreaders, with their applied garters, are successively slipped over and down along the standard, being finally arranged one above the other. Alternate spreaders may be pulled respectively to the left and right so as to make an eiliective displayof the garters.
It will be observed that each pair of garters is supported both by a primary support (a spreader e) and a secondary support (the standard a) that when thus doubly supported the spreader and one half of the garter extends on one side oi' the standard, while the other halt of the garter extends on the other side of the standard; that any pair or" garters may be readily removed or applied to the standard by a slipping or telescoping movement; and that the elasticity of the garters tends to slightly bend the spreader, as shown inFig. 3, thereby almost eliminating friction between the standard and the portion of the garter"`s circumference that is iniinediatelyjadjacent the standard.
Having now Jfully described my invention,
what IV claim and deeiie to protect by Letters Patent is;
A getter display device comprising a pluielity ol? separate spiezldeis each Composed ofa Het strip' over which u garter 1S adopted to be slipped and on Wlilch the garter 1S adapted to be held, and a standard oom-- posed et a Het strip which the several' spieadeis and the garteis Carried thereby are adapted to shdably enga-ge, the Llength of the standard being multiple times the Width of a sgieeder, and the spreadeis being 'of 'e length Substantially greater than theV Width of the standard so as to permit the Spreaders and garteis to project laterally beyond the standard; Y
ln. testimony ot Wliieli invention, I have hereunto set my hand', at Philadelphie; Pennsylvania, on this l5 dayT of December, 1925.
