This invention relates to devices for displayin neckties wherein each tie is displayed independently and is also adapted to be indep ently removed from a displaying device or rack, and in particular a clasp secured to a necktie and adapted to fold around front and rear portions of the tie to form a loop that is adapted to be placed over an arm of a display rack.

The purpose of this invention is to provide a method of displaying merchandise, such as fourin-hand neckties whereby each necktie is independently displayed and wherein each necktie may be removed and replaced without disturbing other neckties on the rack.

Various types of racks have been provided for displaying neckties, particularly in haberdashery and mens furnishings stores, however, with a plurality of neckties hanging from an arm of a conventional display rack purchasers move the neckties back and forth in bunches and many of the neckties are completely hidden. Furthermore in removing and replacing neckties from racks of this type adjoining neckties are withdrawn and often dropped to the floor. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a method of forming a loop in the intermediate portion of the necktie whereby the loop is adapted to be placed over a short arm of a tie rack and wherein the loop remains permanently in the necktie until the necktie is used.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for forming a folding band or clasp whereby with the band extended around front and rear portions of a necktie a loop is formed in the intermediate portion of the necktie.

Another object of the invention is to provide display means for neckties in which a holding device extended around front and rear portions of a necktie is provided with a front panel upon which the trade name of the necktie or the name of the manufacturer may be prominently displayed.

A further object of the invention is to provide a necktie loop forming device which is of a simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a band of flat material having fold lines spaced from the ends providing a flat intermediate section on which the trade name of a necktie is displayed, and end sections, with a slot in one end section positioned to receive a tab extended from an end section at the opposite end of the device with the device folded around a necktie and in which the end section in which the slot is provided is secured to the rear section of the necktie.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view illustrating a plurality of neckties displayed on a rack having an individual arm'for each necktie.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the necktie display rack shown in Figure 1 showing neckties on two of the arms of the rack.

Figure 3 is a detail on an enlarged scale illustrating one of the improved devices and showing the device extended from a portion of a necktie.

Figure 4 is a detail also on an enlarged scale showing a rear view of the loop forming device.

Figure 5 is a front elevational view of the device as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 6 is a longitudinal section taken on line 68 of Figure 4, with the parts shown on a further enlarged scale and showing the device permanently secured to a rear section of a necktie.

Figure '7 is a cross section through a necktie taken on line 1-! of Figure 6, with the holding device secured on the necktie and illustrating the relative positions of the staple and locking tab.

Figure 8 is a vertical section taken on line 8--8 of Figure 3 illustrating the staple extended through the device and into the rear portion of the necktie.

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved necktie loop forming device of this invention includes a folding clasp, generally indicated by the numeral Ill, and having an intermediate panel l with a tab l2 extended from an end section l3 and with a base it extended from the opposite side of the panel ii and having an arcuate tab receiving slot I5 in the intermediate part thereof, and openings l6 and H spaced from the slot and through which a staple l8 extends.

The intermediate section or panel I I may have an embossed or raised section [9 upon which a trade name of a necktie, the name of the manufacturer of the necktie or other advertising indicia thereon and with the ends folded on the broken lines 20 and 2! the panel II, with the indicia thereon corresponds with and is positioned on the front of a necktie, as illustrated in Figure 1.

The end section It is provided with a notch 22 beyond which the tab l2 extends, and with the parts formed in this manner the tab 1 2 is adapted to extend through the arcuate slot l5, as illustrated in Figure 4 for retaining the device in po- 3 sition with the parts folded around front and rear sections of a necktie in which the sections of the necktie are indicated by the

numerals

23 and 24, the section 23 being the front of the necktie and the section 24 being the rear portion thereof.

With the parts arranged in this manner the section 14 of the clasp is secured by a staple 18 to the rear portion 24 of a necktie, as illustrated in Figure 8 and with the parts I l and l 3 extended, as shown in Figure 3. The device is then folded around the necktie to the position illustrated in Figure 4 with the tab l2 extended through the slot I5 whereby the device is secured in position on the necktie.

With the parts of the necktie folded and secured by the clasp a loop 25 is formed in the intermediate part of the necktie and this loop is placed over a knob 26 on an arm 2'! of a bracket, as indicated by the numeral 23. The bracket 28 is supported by a stem 29 from a base 36. It will be understood, however, that the stand may be of any suitable type or design.

With the neckties suspended from individual sections or arms each tie is displayed and each tie may readily be removed and replaced without disturbing other neckties on the rack.

The clasp I 0 may be in the form of a tag, name card, or the like and any suitable indicia may be provided thereon.

It will be understood that other modifications, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.

What is claimed is:

In combination, a necktie for display on a rack and including a folded portion intermediate its ends providing the necktie with a suspending loop, a band for maintaining the necktie in folded condition, and said band surrounding the folded necktie adjacent the bight of the fold and embodying a rectangular body portion extending across the face of the front part of the folded necktie, said body portion including a central portion and said body portion having the same width as the contiguous part of the necktie, a, first flap extending from a longitudinal side edge of said body portion and extending across the face of the rear part of the folded necktie, a staple extending through said first flap and through the rear portion of the necktie, there being a pair of spaced apart openings in said first fiap for the projection therethrough of the staple, said band being rectangular, said first flap having its free longitudinal side edge spaced from the side edge of the necktie, there being an arcuate slot in said first fiap, a second flap extending from said body portion and provided with a tongue for insertion in the slot in said first flap, there being a notch in said second fiap adjacent said tongue for preventing accidental disengagement of said first and second flaps, said staple holding the band against downward or upward displacement with relation to the bight of the fold, said band remaining immobile on said necktie, and the bottom of the necktie remaining in the same plane when the ties are displayed on a rack.
