Description

A. E. JOHNSON DISPLAY STAND Filed Jan. 10, 1948' I II ||l 7? Men for: 3 flrizo/a/ZT 75117130 71 Patented Dec. 14, 1948 DISPLAY STAND Arnold E. Johnson, Chicago, Ill., assignor to Arvey Corporation, Chicago, 111., a corporation of Illinois Application January 10, 1948, Serial No. 1519 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in a display stand, and is more particularly concerned with the provision of an attractive display stand formed from flexible sheet material, such as cardboard, and adapted for use in displaying articles of merchandise upon the counter or show windows of a store.
This invention further contemplates the provision of a display stand in which a sheet of cardboard is cut and scored to provide a display section and a wing section, the display section and wing section being hingedly connected and provided with base sections extending in a plane normal to their respective panel and wing sections. To maintain the display in extended position, a recess and locking flap are provided on the adjacent abutting edges of the base sections, and step and riser sections are provided on each :base section to receive and support an article of merchandise mounted upon the display.
This invention further contemplates the provision of a display stand in which the panel section and wing section are secured at their upper ends and in extended position by means of a locking flap.
This invention further contemplates the provision of a pair of step and riser sections provided on the base section of the display to provide a pocket to receive and support pamphlets or other literature associated with the product being displayed.
This invention further contemplates the provision of a display stand which may be simply and inexpensively constructed from a sheet of cardboard and shipped to the point of use, along with merchandise to be displayed in a flat plane, and adapted to be extended to its display form without difliculty.
This invention embodies other novel features, details of construction and arrangement of parts which are hereinafter set forth in the specification and claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. l is a perspective view illustrating a display stand embodying features of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing a blank of cardboard, or the like, cut and scored to form the display illustrated in Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing for a better understanding of this invention, the display stand is shown as comprising a blank 4 of flexible sheet material, such as cardboard, which is scored along the line 6 to define a panel section 1 and a wing section 8. The blank 4 is scored along the line 9 to provide a panel base section II and a wing Anal base section [2 provided with outwardly diverg ing side edges !3 and M, respectively. The wing base section [2 is recessed at IE to snugly receive and engage a locking tongue I! formed on the panel base section I I.
The blank 4 is out along the lines l8, l9 and 20 and scored along the lines 2], 22, 2323, 24-24 and 25 to provide a step section 26 and three riser sections 21, 28 and 29. The blank 4 is also out along the line 3| and scored along the lines 32, 33 and 34 to provide a step section 36 and a riser section 31. The blank 4 is cut along the line 33 and scored along the line 39 to provide a locking flap 4| formed with a locking tab 42 on its free end for engagement in a slot 43 when the display stand is in its extended position.
It will be noted that the display stand blank 4 is adapted to be shipped to the point of use in its flat condition and extended to its display position at the point of use. By referring to the drawing, it will be noted that the display stand is extended by moving the base sections II and 12 to a plane normal to the panel section 1 and Wing section 8 and then locking the base sections together by inserting the locking tab 11 in the recess l6. By placing an article of merchandise 45 in an upright position upon base sections II and [2, the display stand is held in its upright position. It is an important feature of the present invention to provide a display stand which will not support itself in an upright position unless an article of merchandise is mounted upon the base sections l l and I2. This prevents a customer from removing the article of merchandise being displayed from the stand Without causing the stand to fall over. It will further be noted that the step sections I8 and 36 are formed and arranged to snugly receive and enclose the article of merchandise being displayed upon the stand. It Will further be noted that the step section 26 and riser sections 21, 28 and 29 serve to form a pocket 46, open at the front of the display. to receive a plurality of pamphlets or the like relating to the merchandise being displayed. The locking flap 41 serves to hold the upper portions of the panel section 1 and wing section 8 in their predetermined angular relation when the locking tongue 42 is engaged in the slot 43.
While this invention has been shown in but one form, it is obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited but is susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the claimed invention.
I claim as my invention:
In a display stand, :a sheet of flexible material dis-posed in a common plane and having their adjacent side edges in abutting relation, and locking means formed on the abutting edges of said base sections.
