DISPLAY-STAND.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH HAINESBARKER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

This invention relates to stands or supports for the display of goods in stores and other places and it has for its object to produce a stand or support upon which packages of goods may be piled in a manner to attract the eye, and which shall be inexpensive and capable of being folded compactly so that it may be packed, if desired, in a box with goods, as they are sent out to the retailer.

The invention consists in the construction which is hereinafter more particularly described, the novel features being pointed out specifically in the claims.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective View of a display stand constructed in accordance with my improvements, and set up ready for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same when folded for shipment or storage. Fig. 3 is a top view of the stand when ready for use, one of the legs or feet being shown as separated from the stand.

The stand or support comprises a bottom or base upon which the packages of the goods or other articles may be piled and an interior vertical support against which the packages may rest in order that the form of the pile may be maintained. The bottom or base of the stand is composed of the two leaves A and B, which may be made of pasteboard, wood or any other suitable material, and the intermediate ties or binding strips 0, 0, one of which is preferably hinged, as at o, to the leaf A and is adapted to engage the leaf B, while the other, C, is preferably hinged as at c, to the leaf B and is adapted to engage the leaf A. The intermediate strips or ties O, 0', may be caused to engage the leaves A, B, in any suitable manner, but I prefer to form in the edge of each leaf A and B akeyhole slot a. and b, as represented, and to provide the corresponding strip with a similarly shaped tongue 0 and 0 so that when the parts are in the position represented in Figs. 1 and 3, the tongues will enter the slots and prevent the leaves A and B from separating. A wire staple D may be secured on the under side of each leaf A and B across the neck of its slot a or b to prevent the tongue 0 or c from dropping through the slot if the leaves are raised from the table or counter. To each leaf A and B is hinged, as at a and b',acorresponding leaf E or F, the two leaves E and F being hinged together at the top, at as e, and preferably being narrower at their upper ends than at their lower ends, as represented. The two leaves may also be notched through the joint, as at f, to receive the stem of a price-mark or other card which it is desired to have exhibited at the top of the pile of packages. It is desirable, when the stand is in use, that the outer edges of the leaves A and B should be elevated somewhat so that the packages of the pile may lean toward the center of the stand and therebybe less likely to be disturbed. Accordingly, I provide for each outer corner a short leg or foot G and in order that the same may be removed or applied easily I form near the outer corner of the leaves A and B a narrow slot 6& or b and I cut a circumferential groove g around the upper end of the leg or foot G, the width of the groove and of the slot being such as to permit the foot or leg to be slipped into place and securely held therein, as indicated clearly in Figs. 1 and 3.

When the stand is packed for shipment the ties or intermediate strips 0, O, are laid up respectively against the leaves A and B and the latter are laid against the leaves E and F; the leavesE and F being then brought together at the bottom and the feet G having been removed, the stand occupies but little space and maybe laid in the box with the goods without danger of injury to either. In setting up the stand for use the feet G, G, are secured to the leaves A and B and, the leaves E and F being separated sufficiently, the tongues c and c of the intermediate strips or ties O, (3, are caused to engage the slots inthe edges of the leaves A and B, thereby holding the stand in position to receive the packages of goods which are then piled upon the leaves A and B and strips C, G, and against the leaves E and F.

I claim as my invention 1. In a display stand, the combination of leaves A and B, leaves E and F hinged repectively to said leaves A and B, and ties connected to said leaves to hold them at a fixed distance apart, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a display stand, the combination of leaves A and B, leaves E and F hinged respectively to said leaves A and B and hinged together at their top, a notch being cut in said leaves E and F through the joint between them to receive a card, and ties connected to said leaves A and B to hold them at a fixed distance apart, substantially as shown and described.

3. In a display stand, the combination of leaves A and B, leaves E and F hinged respectively to said leaves A and B and intermediate strips 0, O, hinged to one of said leaves A and B and adapted to engage the other, substantially as shown and described.

4. In a display stand, a base or bottom having hinged leaves A and B, each of said leaves having slots formed near the outer corners thereof, in combination with legs or feet having circumferential grooves and adapted to engage said slots,substantially as shown and described.
