UNITED STATES WALTER B. PARMELE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
MERCHANDISE DISPLAY DEVICE AND CONTAINER.
Application filed January 1 This invention relates to an improved merchandise folder or display device having a body portion comprising panels adapted .to form the front and back of the device a when folded, one of the panels having a shorter or reduced portion marginally and centrally arranged thereon around which the article is wound whereby, when the device is folded, the major portion of the article will be enclosed therein and the opposite edges of the front and back panels will extend be yond the exposed portions of the article, providing a protection therefor and preventing it from being damaged or soiled in'handling, it and also retaining it in a fiat and smooth condition. v
A further object of the invention is to provide a one piece flexible fold-able display device including a body portion comprising so two panels adapted toform the front and back of the device when folded, the front panel having a display opening therein formed to simulate the article on display and through which a portion of the article as may be viewed.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a device of simple and inexpensive construction which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
Uther objects of the invention will appear from the following description and accompanying drawings and will be pointed out in In the drawings there has been disclosed a structure designed to carry out the various objects of the invention, but it is to be under-i stood that the invention is not confined to the exact features shown, as various changes may be made within the scope of the claims which follow.
In-the accompanying part of this specification: I
-Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device unfolded and article positioned upon the reduced portion thereof;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the device partially folded;
Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the device completely folded and also showing how the opposed edges of the front and back panels overhang the exposed portions of the article contained therein;
Figure 4 is a similar view showing the front mde of the device and also showing the 54; display opening providedtherein through drawings forming a protection for them and thus preventin 8, 1926. Serial No. 82,045.
which a portion of the article may be viewed; and
Figure 5 is a plan view of the device when upfolded showing the general outline there- 0 The novel merchandise display device and container featured in this invention is constructed by forming, of sheet material, a blank 6 as shown in F igure 5. This blank is scored or creased as shown at 7, 8 and 9 to permit it to be folded as shown in the other figures of the drawing. By thus scoring the blank, it will, be divided into a plurality of sections, comprising the flap 11, the front panel 12, and the back panel 13. A tab 14 is provided on the flap 11 adapted to be received in a slit 15 provided in the back panel 13.
p A display opening 16 ispreferably provided in the front panel 12 through which a portion of the article contained in the device may be viewed. The outline of this opening is preferably such as to simulate the form of the article on display and as shown in the drawings is formed to represent a ladys stocking.
. A feature of this invention resides in the novel manner in which the article in supported within the device whereby it will be held against relative movement, andwill be retained in substantially a flat and smooth condition. The means provided for thus supporting the article within the device consists of a reduced section or portion 17 marginally formed on one side of the back panel 12, as particularly shown in Figure5. The overall length of the reduced portion 17 is relatively shorter than the overall length of the front and back panels 12 and 13, so that when the article is wound there around, as shown in Figure 1, the opposed edges 18 and 19 of the front and back panels will over hang the exposed portions of'the article as shown in Figures 3 and 4, therebyproviding the article from becoming damaged or soile in handling. By thus mounting the article upon the reduced portion 17 and folding the device to the position shown in Figures 3 and 4,'it will be held against relative movement and will beretained in substantialiy a flat and smooth condition.
From the foregoing, it will readily be noted that this novel display device is particularly well adapted for use to contain and no display such articles as ladies hosiery, neckwear, and various other articles. Its con struction is also very simple and inexpensive, thereby providing such a device which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.
I claim as my invention:
1. A one-piece flexible foldable' display device including a body portion comprising two panels adapted to provide the front and back of said device when folded, a display opening in the front panel through which a portion of the article may be viewed, fastening means on said body portion for retaining it in folded position, a relatively shorter panel connected to said back panel and adapted to support the article to be displayed, and said shorter-panel also being foldable with respect to said back panel whereby, when the device is folded said shorter panel and thearticle will be p0sitioned between said front and back panels whose opposite edges will extend beyond the exposed portions of the article thereby providing a protection therefor;
2. A one-piece flexible foldable display device including a body portion comprising two sections adapted to provide the front and. back of said device when folded, a display opening in the front section through which a portion of the article may be viewed, said opening being formed to simulate the article on display, a slit in the back section, a flap marginally provided on said front section and having a tab thereon adapted to be inserted into said slit to retain the device in folded position, and a reduced portion marginally and centrally provided on said back section adapted .to have the article wound therearound whereby, Whensaid device is folded, the article will be substantially enclosed therein and will be held against relative movement, and the overall length of said reduced portion bein such as to cause the opposite edges ofsai front and back sections to extend beyond the exposed portions of said folded article, thereby preventing it from being damaged or soiled in handling. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of January, 1926.
