NOVELTY-DISPLAY FORM.
Application filed January 14, 1928. Serial Nd. 246,853.
This invention relates to novelty display forms and more particularly to forms for d1splaying neckware, handkerchiefs and other articles of Wearing apparel and merchandise.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, convenient, neat, attractive and economical form for usel in boxes for displaying neckties, handkerchiefs and other art1cles of Wearing apparel and merchandise.
Another object of this invention is to provide a series of small and inexpensive gifts, such as pencils, handkerchiefs, mouth-harps and the like, in conjunction with said display form, thereby giving an attractive appearance to the gift box and also giving a more realistic appearance tothe illustration of the bust of an individual.
My invention consists in providing a gift box for individuals, and especially for boys, said box having a form with flanged edges whereby the body of said form is spaced apart from the bottom of the box andsaid form having on its outer surface an illustrationrv of the bust of an individual, said form being provided with a cut-out portion and a plurality of exposed slits forming a part of the illustration and a plurality of concealed slots in said form for readily holding a four-in-hand necktie whereby it ma be partly visible through said cut out an passed through one of said slits so that a large part of the tie will be exposed on the outer surface of the form and in this way graphically display the necktie substantially as it will appear when in actual use. y
e invention also consistsin the construction, combination, location and arrangement of parts, as herein fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a novelty display form having a. tie and handkerchief applied thereto and showing, by dotted lines, a gift attached thereto, such as a bullet pencil;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the parts shown in Fig. 1 and taken on a plane corre'- sponding to line 2 2 of Fig. l;
Fi 3 is a plan view of the display form onlyefore the edges are bent at right angles to 1ts body and. which clearly illustrates the cut-out used in connection with four-in-hand ties;
Fig. 4 is a similar view of they display form when used in connectionvwith bowties;
Fig. 5 is a rear elevational view of Fig. 3
which more clearly shows the 'cut out slitsr illustrated and which shows a preferred construction I provide a novelty display form 1 having an illustration of the bust of a boy 2 on the surface thereof and provided with flanges 3, 4, 5 and 6, respectively, which flanges are adapted to be' folded inwardly on dotted lines 7, thereby spacing the body of said form 1 away from the bottom 8 of box 9. The illustration 2 of the bust of a boy includes shirt 10 having collar 11 and pockets 12 and 13. The top of imitation pockets 12 and 13, respectively, are cut through, thereby forming slits 12a and 13, respectively, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. When the form 1 is used for displaying fourin-hand neckties, I provide opening or cutout 14 positioned adjacent the collar 11 and inverted V-slit l5 in addition to slots 16 and 17 in flanges 3 and 5, respectively.
In. assembling the gift package and when using a four-in-hand tie 18, as shown in Fig. 1, the first step is to fold the edges, thereby forming llanges, 4, 5 and 6, respectively, inwardly upon dotted lines 7, thus forming support means for the body of the form 1 and concealing the slot 16v and 17. After the form 1 has thus been bent one end of the folded necktie 18 is passed through slot 17 from the underside of said form and drawn over the outer surface thereof and then inserted through inverted V-slit 15, then through slot 16 whereupon the ends of the tie are drawn toward each other thus giving said necktie the appearance of being tied in conjunction with the illustration of the bust of a boy designated as 2.
If the additional gifts are to be Vin the form of pencil 19 and handkerchief 20 the corner of said handkerchief may be inserted through slit 13?, from beneath the form, thus giving the effect of being worn in the imitationpocket 13. The clip 21 ofpencil 19 may be inserted through slit 12l and in this way hold said pencil upon the form in plain view of the purchaser.
If it is desired to make up a gift box having a bow-tie 23 (in place of the vfour-'inhand tie 18) the foi-Inl is pro Jided with spaced apart cut-outs 22 whereby said bowtie may be graphically displayed on the outer surface of the form 1 adjacent the collar 11, as clearly shown in Fig. 6.
If it is ldesired to insert a different or additional gift, such as a mouth har compass, memorandum book, etc., a suita le ildditional cut-out may be added in the form, such as cut-out `24; illustrated in Fig. 4, or different vin shape, as may be required to receive the said additional article.
Various other modifications may be( made in regard to the arrangement and placJement of additional gifts but I wish to protect principally the manner in which the fourin-hand tie 18 and bow-tie 23 are displayed on the outer surface of the form.
An advantage of this invention, in reference to the illustration of the four-in-haiid tie 18 is that the tie, when so arranged, in conjunction'with the form 1, and after the form has been placed within box 9, the only portions of the tie visible to the eye of the observer is that portion ofthe tie appearing tothe eye of the observer when actually worn by a person.
Another advantage of this invention is that the full size of a considerable portion of the tie '18 is displayed upon the surface of the form 1.
It will be understood that certain changes and modifications of the invention can be made without departing from the scope or spirit thereof, as defined in the claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
. 1. A means for ,displaying neckwear comprising the combination of a box, a form bearing on its face an illustration of the bust of a person, flanges on the edges of said form whereby the body thereof is spaced apart from the bottom of said box, a slot in the upper and lower flanges, a diamond shaped cut-outadjacent the collar of said illustration, a slit positioned beneath said cut-out, and a necktie adapted to be inserted in said slots and slit whereby it is partly visible through said cut-out and displayed upon the outer surface of the form from the slit to the bottom of said form.
2. `A means for displaying neckwear comprising the combination of a box, a form bearing on its face an illustration of the -bust of a person, ianges on the edges of said form whereby the body thereof is spaced apart from thebottom of said box, a slot in the upper and lower flanges, a
cut-out adjacent the collar of said illustraparel comprising, in combination, a box, a
form adapted to fit therein and be partly spaced apart from the bottom thereof, an illustration of the bust of a person on the face of said form, a concealed slot in the upper and lower extremities of said form, a cut-out adjacent the coller of said illustration, a slit positioned beneath said cut-out, pockets forming part of said illustration, slits at the top of said pockets through which wearing apparel such as handkerehiefs may be Ainserted from the rear of said form, and a necktie ada ted to be ,inserted in said slots and passe through said slit from the back of id form to the Lfront thereof whereby said tie is ypartly visible through said cut-out and displayed in actual size from said slit to the bottom of said form.
4. A necktie display means comprising, in combination, a box, a form having ianges on its side which are adapted to be bentA at right angles to the face of said form and concealed in said box, a slot in two of said flanges, an opening located midway said slots, a slit between said opening and one of said slots and an elongated slit on each side of said first-named slit, for the purposes specified.
